After 4 treatments- salon wants to change laser...

I had my 4th session on my bikini last week, this time with a different tech to my usual. She seemed to be better than my usual one when I got in there and she started talking…

I’ve been doing lightsheer. I have brown hair, I’m Irish…

She looked at my hair and was like, “This is brown, not black at all… you need Candela” (something like that)

so they’ve booked me in for 1 week before my next treatment to get a test patch to switch me over.

They know I had been thinking of doing underarm and legs… yet they can’t get THIS right?

I don’t know what I should say to them if they’re saying basically that they gave me the wrong laser and so that’s why I still have a LOT of follicles to zap in my next treatments. The time, effort, money…

Candela is a good laser. Brown hair is not ideal for laser. How coarse is your hair? How denser is it? Me thinks you may need to search for a skilled electrologist.

What’s your skin type?

Post a picture with the hair if possible.

Ask what settings they plan to use on the Candela. Also ask them which Candela laser they are planning to use.

You can achieve decent reduction with brown hair if high settings are used on a laser like Candela’s GentleLase.

I guess I’m annoyed that they’ve used the wrong laser possibly and that I’ve paid for the wrong laser for 4 sessions now. I have had a reduction in the hair but if they’d chosen the correct one in the first place, I’d have gotten more out of my treatments.

They have scheduled a test patch for the day before treatment number 5. Maybe I should ask for the test patch for this week and update you with the settings and info they give me? I am not sure if I should bring up the fact that I’ve paid for 4 sessions that was with the wrong laser…

The hair is a darker brown- definitely not light… but I think a picture may have to be posted

I have not used a lightsheer on me before, but at good settings, it seems to do a good job! I’m a big fan of Candela. In reality, if they’re switching, as long as they use good settings, you’re going to be just fine.

The Lightsheer (855nm) should work well with brown hair, however the Candela Gentlelase operates on a shorter wavelength (755nm) which technically should provide slightly better photo absorption for your hair color. Bear in mind that even the slightest tan or taking medications that make you photosensitive prohibit treatment with the Candela Gentlelase until these contraindications are resolved. The end result is not dependent on machinery alone. Consumers are under the mistaken impression that the laser itself does all the work. In the real world, you would have better results and a safer treatment in the hands of a skilled Lightsheer technician than an unskilled one using the Candela Gentlelase.
