After 15 months how much regrowth is normal?

Hi everyone I am continuing to have electrolysis every week on pretty much the same areas. She has branched out to now when I leave almost half my face is cleared. For those that don’t remember me, I have a bad facial hair almost like a man’s beard. The areas stay hair free for about a week now. I missed last week and a week in March which were the first time I have missed a week since the summer. It will be two weeks tomorrow since I have had treatment and the areas are covered with hair again. The hairs are coarse/medium. I would say 35-40 percent of hair has returned in the 2 weeks. I can see improvement, hairs not as much as the rest of my face and when I am farther away from the mirror you can see the difference in areas she’s treated and hasn’t yet. I am just wondering are these areas supposed to be cleared for longer than a week because they aren’t. I have been going every week for 45 minutes. I started in Jan 2016. I used to go for 15-30 minutes sessions, started 45 in September. I am happy the areas stay clear for about a week, they used to only be clear 3- 4 days. Nice not having to worry about those areas all week. However, I wished they stayed clear longer. Should they be at this point?
Thanks for the help!

A few facts/observations -

  1. Your face should be completely cleared and smooth after each
    visit.
  2. Previously treated hair follicles that were not wiped out
the first time, cannot regrow hair within two weeks.
  3. Hair follicles are NOT on the same growth cycle.
  4. After 15 months, everything you see is regrowth.
  5. Your progress has been slow
  6. Recommendation: Find another electrologist.

Thanks for your reply.

The areas she treats are completely clear when I leave. Hairs pop up throughout the week. By my next appointment she recleans the areas and branches out a little. Different amount of regrowth each week, sometimes not much growth, sometimes bed of fine hair with coarse mixed in. Now 2 weeks since treatmemt the areas are covered with hair medium to coarse. Again still less than it was and less than the untreated parts of my face.
I have a ton of facial hair, like a man. I did go to another electrologist and she said it could take 2 years for areas to remain clear. She said the electrologist I’m going to do now is doing well, I just have a lot of hair.
I feel some tugging of hairs sometimes, usually first time treated hairs needs a tug.

Unless you have achieved significant reduction in 15 months, I would find another electrologist. It’s that simple.

I agree with The previous poster. Are you taking any medications that may promote Hair growth? Do you feel sensations of hairs being tweezed during your treatments. By now if the treatment is performed correctly you should be having a shorter treatment time less often. Perhaps 15 minutes monthly or less.

No, I don’t take medication. I have a hormonal imbalance that causes hirsutism, I possibly have pcos. Anyway, I have a lot of hair and I go for 45 minutes a week. Some areas that she branched out on have been treated for 6 months. The areas she’s treated since the beginning are mainly clear. I see a reduction, just wished I had no regrowth. I sometimes will feel a tug especially on first time treated hairs. I have a beard, so she only has completed half my face. I see results, just it’s a slow process. I wish the areas stayed cleared for a week or more. The hair isn’t as densely populated and you can see my skin now.

GH having seen your previous pictures I think there is a number of things at play here.

From previous convwrsations I felt that you were being undertreated. I also felt that was the reason for tugging. This shouldnt happen and I think I successfully conveyed the importance of that.

There is clearly some hormonal imbalance causing your growth. As long as that situation is the same, you will continue to get hair. It COULD be PCOS but only a doctor can tell you that for sure. I do feel you should have some bloodwork done to at lest tell you what your androgen levels are.

Given the amount of hair you have, 45 minutes once a week is insufficient in my view. You are battling regrowth from undertreatment, new growth from androgens , and those 2 factors are undoing your electrologists work.

I took on a case similar to yours, actually maybe a bit worse in september. A beard thicker than any mans. That woman put in massive number of hours of treatment. 30 hours within the first month, and I should think OVER 100 by now and we’re only 8 months in. The difference in her face however, astounding.
I feel you could benefit from several steps right now, a visit to the doctors, a electrologist who is NOT undertreating and much more treatment than you are recieving now.
I remember looking at your picture and thinking "This can be solved. It will take a lot of work, but it can be solved.

Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate your time.
I did have blood work and I do have high testosterone levels. My sister and mom also have a facial hair problem, just not as bad as mine.
I will visit a doctor in the future, however right now I just feel they will want to put me on birth control or Spiro and I don’t want to be put on medicine now.

I want to get to the point I can have 1-2 treatments a month and she can treat my whole face. I am fine with trimming or bleaching a little in between as long as there is no more shadow and coarse hair. I know this will take time and as long as I see continued results/progress which I have, it’s okay.

She told me the settings are as high as my skin can take and my pain level. Doesn’t she know if I’m being undertreated?
I know I will always have new hairs, however as long as I get the bulk killed I will be happy.
I can only afford 45 minutes a week.
I feel tugging on some newly treated hairs.
My face is easier for me to manage each week. I just skipped last week, so I have more hair than I have had. Again less dense and not as much, just still the areas aren’t clear.
Do you think I will continue to see results even without medicine and with my same settings?
Thanks again for your advice/thoughts.
