Advice/Referral for Mississauga electrologist

Hi all,

First of all, I would like to state that I am completely new to this forum and the entire electrolysis experience. So I apologize in advance if I am repeating any questions already asked or break any forum rules regarding referrals about specific electrologists. Also, this site is amazing!! It is wonderful to read along and know that I am not alone, while the advice and compassion of repliers I’m sure has helped countless people along their electrolysis journey!

To fill you in on my situation, I am a female with a fair complexion and light blonde facial hair that has become very noticeable if left unkempt. Years ago, in my early teens (I’m now in my early thirties), a girlfriend and I thought it would be fun to wax our upper lips. I am 100% convinced now, that at the time, it was completely unnecessary, as the only hairs on my face were only faintly noticeable when at an inch away from a mirror. Although, unfortunately, we foolishly proceeded anyway. I continued to do this periodically and by the time I reached 16, the hair had become noticeable, since I believe the waxing made the hair grow back somewhat distorted and more visible. I was way too embarrassed to go see anyone about it, let alone talk about it, so I began shaving, which was the worst thing I could have done. What kept me going was, at first, I could lightly shave the area and it wouldn’t grow back for almost a week, with the hair staying fairly fine/soft. This somehow convinced me to do the same for my chin; another huge mistake, since the hair on my chin, like the ‘virgin’ hair on my upper lip before I began waxing, was also not that noticeable. Anyway, eventually the hair began to grow back quicker and coarser, and to make a long story short, now, more than 10 years later, I am slaved to shaving every day, or I have very noticeable blunt “stubble”. Not to mention, the shaving is “roughening” my skin, which I know will only get worse if I continue shaving.

So, after years of embarrassment, I have finally had enough, and am in the process of trying to find a reputable electrologist in the Mississauga, Ontario (Canada) area. I am EXTREMELY concerned about scabs and scarring since I am interested in work done on my face. From what I have read, most scabbing and marks on the face should be avoidable if the electrolysis is performed properly. I am ok with slight irritation a day or so after, but would really like to avoid any more than that since I work full time and have an active social life. I am certainly prepared to cut back on social outings during the healing period, although I can’t avoid going to work. Fortunately, I have 3 weeks off in a month from now, so I was thinking I could start the process more intensely during my first session then, since I wouldn’t have to go to work and could avoid going out in public for up to a week if I had to. Yet, my biggest wish would be if this scenario could be avoided altogether, and would therefore love to know if anyone could recommend an electrologist in my area that is known for being very skilled and leaving minimal scabs and irritation. I can find recommendations for others outside my area (like Toronto), although can’t find any in my area (Mississauga). I understand it’s not that far of a drive to Toronto, although if I can find a GOOD one closer that would be great, as there are several listed in my area, but just no online recommendations. Regardless, I decided to make an appointment for a consultation with a lady named Katherine who’s office is across from Square One mall (in Mississauga). I’m not sure of the forum rules about providing the names/addresses of clinics, so let’s just say she calls her clinic the “Green colour gemstone” Electrolysis Clinic. If anyone has had experience, or knows of the results of anyone who has had experience with this clinic, I would greatly appreciate your input.

Also, if anyone has any advice on what approach would work best (based on my scenario), like which machines, methods, etc. you would recommend, that would really be helpful as well. Like I said, I am very new to this whole process and unfortunately don’t know anyone personally who has gone through it to ask.

Lastly, thanks to all who kindly put the time and effort into reading through this post. I realize it is extremely long and detailed, and I apologize, although I am feeling rather desperate and could use some advise!!!

I believe James Walker VII, one of the moderators, is located in Buffalo, NY. That is less than 2 hours away. I know lots of posters who would give their eye teeth to be that close to his office.

Hope that helps.

Thank You for the kind words MaryC.

Although I would of course welcome the chance to clear her out in no time, if she doesn’t have a passport, or “enhanced driver’s license” to get past the boarder bridge Nazis, seeing me is not an option for her.

As for the forum rules about practitioner information, we welcome posters to give the names and contact information of the people they see, and encourage them to tell us who the good ones are, so that others may find them in the future.

I guess I figured anyone living that close to the border would have a passport. You practically need one to go to the grocery store now…

They are too lazy to ask everyone “May I see your papers please?” like the old fashioned Nazi Guards. They want us all chipped so the machines can do it as we walk past the “Loss Prevention” scanners at the door.

But seriously, with Passports costing $100 and “enhanced driver’s licenses” costing $75, many people have just stopped crossing the boarder. I lost a few ongoing clients when the boarder rules got stupid a few years ago. They call me and say, “I want to come see you again, but I just have not gotten around to getting that passport yet. I am just too busy.”

Thanks so much for the advice! From what I have read, James, you certainly are very highly regarded in your work and if I lived in the U.S. I would certainly have you on the top of my go-to list. Although, the problem is (as you mentioned) the wait time and hassle at the boarder. I do have a passport, although I don’t have an “enhanced” drivers licence. Plus, in the past few years I have crossed the boarder 3 times (for shopping, travel, etc.) using a greyhound bus and all times I have had to wait at least 1.5 - 2 hours just waiting to cross. One of those times, I waited 4+ hours. This makes the 2 hour away drive much longer. Not to mention, the idea of having to grow everything out and wait around the boarder with a 5 o’clock shadow also doesn’t appeal to me. If I was a man, or had a more severe issue of hair reduction needed, then that would be a different story.

As for giving info on practitioners, I have an appointment for a consultation at the Emerald Electrolysis Clinic in Mississauga today. I will be sure to fill you all in on how it goes. Plus, I’m sure I will probably have an entire list of new questions after seeing her.

Thanks again, for all your help!

OOOOORRRRR maybe not! She might be everything you desire in a professional electrologist.

The wait is usually shorter when you drive a car, and if you are working with me, you DON’T have to grow it out for a crazy long time, since I have a stereo microscope and can see the hairs before you can.

If you are not plucking, which you said you are not, then we would be ok with you not shaving or clipping for 24 to 72 hours.

I hope things go well at the Clinic Of Oz

I know this is an old post, but incase anyone else has the same question I have a recommendation. I have been seeing a lady at the Britain Institute of Electrolysis. She is an instructor there, but she also does electrolysis treatments. I’ve been going for several months once a week for my upper lip and sideburns. I don’t get any scabs or scarring. I have kind of sensitive skin, and I get redness after the sessions. But this goes away within the hour. I had very good results. I recently stopped going because I bought a laser hair removal package, and I want to try that. I would highly recommend this location.

Again, this is an old post but I see Sonia at the Village Spa in Streetsville. I have gone to 3 practitioners in total and she is by far the best in that she is professional and super fast.
