Advice Please!

When I was in the 5th grade I was teased about having a moustache. I was very hurt by this and ended up using Nair to get rid of it. I have been using cream hair removers for years now on the upper lip area. However, I noticed that now I have a dark shadow above my upper lip and the hair has got darker. I am now 33 year old and decided to go about trying electrolysis to get rid of this problem that has plagued me since child hood. My first treatment took only about 20 minutes and she cleared the upper lip in that time frame of all the dark hairs. However, after 3 weeks after my electrolysis appointment I am now noticing accelerated chin hairs and more hair on the sides of my face…I haven’t had electroysis on my chin or cheeks but just my upper lip. Could getting elextrolyssi on the upper lip have stimulated my peach fuzz that was already there to grow and become accelerated vellus hairs? Please help! I want to continue to get electrolysis on my upper lip but am afraid that I am doing myself more harm than good.

Thanks you for any feedback that you may have!

Electrolysis on the lip causing more hair on the chin, and side burns?

NOT possible. I mean zero possibility of this happening.

I think this may be a matter of your focus. You had been focusing on your lip … got that cleared and then coincidentally started noticing other areas. It happens all the time. One client named it the “Sequoia effect.”

Ok…Thanks for clarifying this for me! I appreciate that!

I do have another question. If I went ahead and got a few of the accelerated vellus hairs on my chin done with electrolysis…about how long would it take to get rid of these light vellus hairs? I have maybe 10 at the most growing around or near my chin area. I have done no hair removal to these whatsoever.

some of this depends on whether your electrologist can see them well enough to get into the folicle, but I’d think ten-15 minutes would be generous.Id have waited for Michael, Dee, or James to answer s they can give a better estimate than I , but none of them seem to be around this weekend.

A session to clear the visible hairs may not take long, but remember that all of your hair is not always growing.
You will need to have future sessions to clear up hair which is not growing at this time, whether you need to go back weekly, monthly or quarterly. You need to be in it for the long haul.

Like emilily said, you don’t have just 10 hairs. Hair grows and sheds, cycling in and out. Time-wise, you won’t be on the table very long for treating these 10 hairs, but you still have to go through some hair growth cycles, paying attention to when the next group of long blond hairs make their appearance, so they can be treated. Within about a year to year and half, you should have completed your goal. However, there may be new issues to deal with as you age. There are lots of hair follicles on a woman’s face and they don’t always stay under control. What isn’t a problem today MAY become a problem in 2017? At least you will eliminate hair today and that hair won’t be there when or if new hair starts to change into bothersome, unsightly hair. Just get rid of what you have going on in 2013 and stay on it so the area stays clear of unsightly hair throughout your life span.

Just a sidebar here: when women come in my office complaining about 10 hairs, well, sighhhhh… when I put my surgical loupes on and look down, it’s a whole new world. I see MANY more than 10 hairs that are “lovely” beyond their length. So, I consult with the client and if she still wants ten hairs removed, I do what she asks.

I’d have to agree with what Dee says here. I’ve done alot of work to my forearm this week If you were to look at it from a foot or so, you would say it’s clear ( except along the far side) . Put it under my loop and you will see it’s not SO! I have alot more work to do. It’s utterly amazing what more you see under magnifiction.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I do notice that when I take a magnifying mirror to my chin I see several more that are longer than I would like to have. Most of these hairs that I do notice though are only in the sunlight or if I get up close to the mirror. It is still something that does bother me and I will have these taken care of as soon as the upper lip is fully cleared. I want to focus on one area and get that cleared before moving on to the next. Thanks everyone for your advice! It’s very much appreciated!

You are very welcome. Good plan to focus on one area!
