Advice please

Hi,

I have been to two clinics and had two skin tests in the last week, and I cannot make my mind up between them. One big difference is cost but I will pay the more expensive if that means I will get a better result. Can people please advise on the technical info, as from reading the forum I have gotten a little confused:

Clinic 1:

Sk:n
Cost - Full legs - £2100 (30% off for new customers)
Settings - 15mm with 18j, 20j and 22j
Treatment - Full legs, 8 sessions, 1 session every 6 weeks
Laser - Alexandrite 755

Clinic 2:

Timeless Skincare & laser

Cost - Full legs and full bikini - £1200 (5% off for cash rather than card)
Settings - Legs, 18mm 14j and then 18mm with 14j/15mm with 16j for bikini
Treatment - Full legs and full bikini, 6 sessions, 1 session every 6-8 weeks
Laser - Alexandrite 755

From reading lots of the posts it seems like both clinics are using quite weak settings. I am a type I - II skin type.

Thanks for any help

The second one has a newer GentleLase model with bigger handpiece - will penetrate deeper. Minimum they should use is 16J/mm2, better is 18 or 20.

For legs you shouldnt go every 6 weeks, will be too soon. Optimum is 10-12weeks that you have all hair present and the hair is coarse enough to get the best possible effect.

What specific machines are these? GentleLASE or something else? This is important.

For your skin type, you should be able to handle the most aggressive settings on the largest 18mm spot size. Max on 18mm spot size on GentleLASE is 20J. Anywhere from 14-20J on 18mm is good. So the second option is good at first, but I’m not understanding why they want to switch to 15mm after. Joules impact decreases if you decrease the spot size, so on 15mm, max becomes 30J. So those settings on 15mm are low.

You should strive for someone who will use 18m with 14J+ or 15mm with 24J+ on your skin type.

However, we need to know the name of the machine. If it’s GentleLASE, pulse width is set at 3ms. However, if it’s Apogee or another one, then pulse width is adjustable and needs to be noted as well as it’s also an important factor.

Every 6 weeks is too soon on all of those areas. It’s 8-12 weeks for bikini/underarms, and 12-16 weeks for legs. You don’t need to discuss this or argue with them though. Just come in when you “have time”, i.e. when there is enough hair to treat, which won’t be at 6 weeks.
