advice please!

hello all, i am new to this board.

I am a 21 year old male with excessive hair on most of my body. I have been wanting to get my hair reduced or rid of in one way or another for over ten years now. though it does have a few upsides, i have weighed the issue for as long as i can remember, and all scales generally take the favor of getting some form of treatment. i’ve done waxing for three and a half years now, which in its own way is a bit more embarrassing at times than just being hairy.

if i were to get the perfect treatment done, it would be a significant reduction on my legs, removal on my bum, and reduction on my arms. i actually enjoy the chest hair, as it is not that excessive. in addition, my hairs are not terribly thick, but the follicles are generally in tiny 2-3 adjacent clusters, long, and very dark.
i am going in for a consult in about a week and a half, and was wondering if anyone had some advice or ideas to share before my plight begins a new (and hopefully fruitful) chapter. anyone?

thanks

what is your skin color? how dense and coarse is your hair on those areas?

Electrolysis will thin your hair out just fine. And it’ll be unoticeably even, instead of patchy like what laser would result in. Those are large areas so go with an operator that uses a good, modern flash electrolysis machine. They will be able to permanently remove the hair with pinpoint accuracy. Just remember though, it doesn’t happen overnight. You’ll have to make it a part of your lifestyle for awhile, but electrolysis is well, well worth it. There is no easy, quick way to remove hair. Scams prey on people looking for an easy, quick way. Goodluck, and ask more if you wish.

If you’ve felt this way since you were 11 then I’m guessing you developed hair before most of your classmates. You probably don’t want to hear this, but when this happens it can skew your self image quite a bit. Before you go headfirst into permanent hair removal I would strongly recommend you only treat certain areas first. Arms are pretty easy to clear up, and they are a popular treatment area for men, so perhaps start with them?

The backside can be pretty painful for some, so you may need emla and short appointments to begin with.

Legs are going to take the longest. You’re looking at treatments spread out over nearly 2 years depending on how much you want to remove. Remember that when you get older you lose hair on the lower legs anyway. However you could do some of the electrolysis yourself on the legs.

I’ll just stick to the issue at hand. without knowing your skin and hair type, it’s impossible to suggest whether laser is even an option. if it is, with a GOOD laser and GOOD practitioner, you can achieve a nice reduction with just a few treatments without any patchiness. but no point to discuss yet, as we don’t have information here. electrolysis is good too. however, these areas are large and it would definitely take a lot longer. then again, if you have blond, red etc hair or dark skin, electrolysis is the only option. for whichever you decide to go with, finding someone who cares about your results and knows what they’re doing is most important.

Based on the areas you describe I think you should try laser first if you are light skinned/dark hair. If it is your upper arms you are speaking off I would not use laser. I’ve read many cases of males having some success with removing leg, and forearm hair. Your “bum” hair as you say might be a little more stubborn with laser.
