advice/opinions appreciated

I had my first laser hair removal appointment 2 weeks ago with the Cynosure Apogee Elite laser. I have light skin and very dark hair. The areas treated were underarms, full legs and bikini area. No numbing cream was used. I had a histamine reaction (allergic reaction… hives, etc.) It has finally gotten much better yet I still have splotchy reddish/at times purpleish marks where the reaction was most severe (lower legs and inner thighs). Has anyone had a similar experience? Could it be hyperpigmentation?
The doctor said I could conitnue treatments but would need to take Benedryl or Claritin before my appointments.
I’m just wondering if I should continue, believe me I am desperate to, but I don’t want to replace ugly hairy legs with ugly splotchy legs!
Any advice/similar experience would be welcome.

can you tell us whether the alex or the yag version of that laser was used (it has both)? do you know the settings? were your legs tanned at the time/

No tan. I think they used a low setting as there is a lot of contrast between my skin color and hair color. As for the type of laser all I know is that it is the Cynosure Apogee Elite. Would one cause damage and the other not? I am not familiar with the differences.

that specific machine has 2 types of laser in one, and yes they are pretty different. Alex is a lot more powerful with a shorter wavelength than the Yag setting. If they used the alex setting, the reaction might not happen with a Yag. I would still take an anti-histamine though.

I am wondering if I have hyperpigmentation. But everything I have read indicates it is a problem for those with darker skin tones and I have very light skin. What do you think? How long could it last? Could it be permanment? Can I sue?
