advice on best route to follow

i am thinking of doing laser treatment, but if its not suitable then u know what can i do. But i just wanted to get some background
fairly light skinned pakistani, i could pass for a spanish person, except for the facial features
black hair
i only want about 50% reduction on my legs and buttocks(that’ll be embarrassing)
anyway, can u tell me whats the best route for me to take? Also, what are the disadvantages of discontinuing treatment and then continuing them later (currently, i dont have a lot of money, but i will once i graduate)
also, i am 19

  1. If the hair is coarse, you should use a Yag laser. It will also be better to achieve just a reduction since it will remove the most coarse hair first.

  2. For a reduction, you will need less treatments, so probably around 3-4. Start shopping around for an experienced clinic in your area. GentleYAG, Coolglide, Sciton, etc are just some names of Yag lasers.

  3. Since you’re young, you should realize that your are still developing NEW hair and will be for a while. So, that will affect your results. Getting treatments now doesn’t make anything worse for later. Just realize that you will see what will look like some regrowth, but it will be NEW hair in the next couple of years.

  4. Buttocks are a very common area. Don’t worry about it. They do it daily.

LA Girl, at 19 you are still developing new hair?? At what age, if ever, do you stop?

most people develop most of their hair between 14 and 28. men can develop some back hair around 30 though.

Can I jump in here for a moment. I just want to clarify.

You are not developing new hair as you are born with all the hair follicles you will ever have and you never make new ones. Instead, you are recruiting hairs that are inactive to become active. This tends to be related to hormonal changes and the process during puberty can last for many years past what we would normally expect to be the end of puberty as lagirl states.

But it is also possible to recruit inactive follicles during pregrancy and menopause for example.

this is awful. I’m young and I’ve spent thousands of dollars removing hair, and now I will develop new hair?

You can’t predict that you will develop new hair. You may be fine. As mentioned above, you are born with all the hair follicles you will ever have. Some hair follicles are active, some are empty, some are inactive. So what stimulates hair growth? There are three times in a woman’s life where hair can come to life: Puberty, Pregnancy and Menopause. If you are hormonally vulnerable and your genetics dictate that you will grow hair in certain areas, then you will grow new hair. If you take certain medications that have increased hair growth as a side effect, then you MAY grow hair. Stress can be the trigger to grow hair, as well.

Deal with what you have now because once those follicles are PERMANENTLY treated, they can never come back to haunt you in the future. If new hair starts to grow later on because of factors I mentioned above, then treat it before it gets out of control. Most people do fine with the intial treatment phases of hair removal and really don’t have to chase hair the rest of their life, so don’t be too bummed.

Plus, even if you get some newly activated follicles in 10 years, it won’t be look like everything you’ve treated is back. You didn’t develop all the hair you had now overnight. It won’t be like that later either. IF it happens, it can be easily taken care of if need be.
