Advice needed from Professionals

I have recently started electrolysis. I was committed to doing a year plan with the CPE I chose. I really like her as a person and she has been doing electrolysis for 20 years. I have some issues with her and I would feel awkward discussing them with her in person. I would like to quit using her but was wondering if it would be constructive to tell her why instead of just cancelling my appointments. I would like to hear from the professionals here to see what they would prefer.

The issues I have are: I don’t like the technique she uses for cleaning some of her equipment. She told me was going to go wash her hands which lasted about 5 seconds and then as she walked back into my room, she was drying her hands with a paper towel . She then wiped her face and mouth and used that same towel to wipe down her magnifying glass. Even though that part doesn’t come in contact with me, I found it gross.

The next issue I had with her was that I am there for chin and neck clearance. Both last week and this week she started going into my cheek and upper lip areas. I stopped her on the cheek area and later had to stop her on my upper lip area. I thought maybe she did these areas to give me my monies worth since I pay $45 usd for 45 minutes. When I got home I found that she hadn’t even completely cleared my chin. This angered me because she should’ve made that her priorty instead of wanting to do other areas on my face. Anyway, I want to quit going to her. I don’t want her to try and make good on any future visits.

Do you professionals think by tellng her about these issues it would be beneficial for her in improving her business practices?

That depends on her personality. She may get insulted or she may say thank you for the feedback. I encourage clients to be honest with me if they were unhappy about anything, but the next business person might behave in a defensive way.

Do you have other electrologists in your locale that you can check out?? If so, check them out and move on.

Electrologists need to operate under hygienic practices. Clients NEED to see us wash or sanitize our hands properly. Rinsing a few fingers under water for three seconds is not proper hand washing. They need to observe how probes and forceps are handled. They should both be sterile. I personally wipe any area I touch with disinfectant with the client watching me. I even wipe the remote control to the TV. They see me wash my hands and put gloves on. They see me opening a new package with a sterile probe. I don’t answer the phone once I am gloved. I don’t scratch my head, nose or anything else once I’m gloved. I could list more, but I think one gets the idea. Most clients watch everything and then there are some wouldn’t care if we were doing electrolysis in pig slop pen (wink!).

You are paying for peace of mind as much as you are paying for permanent hair removal. If you can help her learn that, her business will thrive. Having CPE initials doesn’t always mean the person is more professional than the non-CPE.
