Acne and Electrolysis

Hello All,

It seems as though I am suddenly noticing a lot more pimples on my face. Could this be due to ingrown hairs on my face, due to electrolysis? Does anyone have a good remedy to avoid ingrowns? Also, is it ok to be on any medication while doing electrolysis? Will any acne related medication or antibiotics work against electrolysis anyway? I was considering accutane, but I am not sure if I should wait to see how my skin looks after a year of electrolysis. It has been 6 months so far. Electrolysis on my face and neck and getting pimples continuously on chin and cheeks.

OH GOD NO! No Accutane during electrolysis! Don’t take any medication without physician diagnosis and prescription.

I will let others talk about these common post-electrolysis pimples, because I’ve explained this about 100 times so far. Quick answer: just “dead junk” left in the zapped follicle that the body is getting rid of. More common on oily skin (for specific reasons). Gently wash these off and don’t worry. NOT ingrown hairs!

Ingrown hairs should not be happening if you are getting electrolysis treatments. (Unless you just started and are having ingrowns from the last few months of tweezing or are still tweezing.) Ingrown hair occurs from tweezing or poor electrolysis treatments.

Pimples can go along with ingrowns. Pimples usually don’t go along with electrolysis - but sometimes they happen. Skin breakouts after electrolysis should be treated with OTC acne products - such as salicylic acid.

Michael is spot on with the no Accutane post.
