I am going back to electrolysis for numerous coarse hairs on my chin. I’m one of those people with the coarse resistant chin hairs with naturally distorted follicles distorted even further by years of plucking. Ack.
I’m going to make a couple of appts with electrologists for consult/test treatment. (i chose them based on exactly what was said in all yelp and citysearch reviews). i have an appt on Tuesday for a consult. I have had an amazing electrologist 16 years ago (for bikini and chin), since he retired my experiences with electrologists have not been so great, but they were at salons, only one was a rec but she left my face a mess so I gave up. But now I’m determined to get rid of these hairs so i need to find the right person.
When I’m having consultations, what are things I should ask/notice?
I do want to know what their thoughts are on effectively killing tough coarse hairs in it’s anagen stage, Because after hearing electrologists say “finer and finer and finer until it disappears", I never want to hear those words again. A person should be able to kill many hairs in its anagen stage, right? Even the tough ones? Of course not all, and even some really obnoxious hairs could take more than 2, but is it asking to much for a person to be able to kill many in the anagen hair’s first treatment? I guess this really is the most important thing to me, but i’m not sure how to ask it and i’m not sure what is reasonable to expect.
As for other things, I suppose I could ask what needle (insulted, bulbous, gold) but i understand that depends on method, so that won’t really be the right question. I know I could ask what method, but skill trumps method. So what do I really look for? For sure I’m going to look for someone who can talk about treatment with me without just telling me “it’ll be fine, trust me” sort of thing (ugh), and I’m fine with asking technical things, and by what they tell me I can get a sense of things, but not sure what technical things i would even ask. If I like my consult I’ll do 15 mins with them to check out their insertions, etc.
Any other advice? I just don’t want to waste anymore time and money, only to be left frustrated. thanks.
You have the advantage of recognizing proper, efficient treatment, when you find it. Did you get any referrals from here?
Yup, i got 2 referrals from here. and 2 from yelp/citysearch.
Ah yes, i think i have a pretty good handle on what blend feels like. i think it was blend my guy used. And i’ve used flash before, but not as familiar with what it feels like when it’s successful. Question. when an anagen hair is easily released and is obviously not being plucked, that doesn’t mean the papilla, (or whatever is being destroyed), has definitely been destroyed, right? If not, any other ways to recognize whether the person has been successful in treating that hair?
Although maybe i don’t have to overthink this, and just find someone who does a good amount of easy releases, not too much pain, good pace and someone i feel comfortable with. i guess i just want to find someone who does more papilla killing instead of papilla weakening.
wow, what is that metal bar they put in your hand for? I went to my consult and did a 15 min session. She used blend and put the metal thing in my hand, every time zapped (after the lye went in) it was like a metal taste in my mouth. so gross. She was good though, left nothing but a little redness on my chin. Her fischer SE-5 machine was set to the equivalent of maybe 3/4 bwtn off and high, and the insertions lasted about 6 seconds. It’s possible i used to do flash with my guy, no i have no idea now, cuz i think his were 3 seconds and once he took the hair, then sometimes he would re-insert and give me a zap, and my flash with others was like less than a second. shrug no idea now. And he maye have had his electro part set on high, because it used to zap me like a mf’er and leave more redness.
But as for the consult, no matter what i tried to tell her about my electrolsis history, or the hair issue i was having she would not listen, (and there didn’t seem to be much room for questions). i got about 2 sentences in then she just wanted me to lie down, she just wanted me on the bed and that’s it. So basically, no consultation. 1/2 way through our session she says "wow, these hairs are deep, and strong, have you been plucking? “yes, for 15 years, that’s what i was trying to tell you”. lol. Anyway, she was fine, i know she would get the job done, that was clear (even though the dreaded “finer and finer and finer until they’re gone” sentence made it’s way into the conversation, i don’t know why that bugs me), and she is super super super nice, also not super expensive (but still up there), but i’ll keep going to a couple other consults. If i can find someone good and a little less expensive, then i could do my lip and what’s left of my undie arms as well.
I get the blend done too and have to hold onto the little bar. She explained it to me before, but I know I will distort the details on what hte little metal thing is for. I think it has to do with electricity going through you?
I never tasted metal before though
