A Tutorial on Probe Size

Hi All,

I searched for a topic on this but came up empty. How does a practitioner determine the size of the probe he or she wants to use? I am getting electrolysis done on my back for thick hair and sometimes my practitioner has to use two taps at a high setting to get it to budge. This person is also using a size 3 probe (unsure if there are standard sizes across brands). Would a larger probe benefit me (allowing more electricity to be transfered, similar to larger gauge wire and carrying amps?).

In general, what’s the costs and benefits of using different sized probes?

Size of probe is determined by the size of the hair being treated. The diameter of the probe should match the diameter of the hair.

I use size 5-6 probes on back, neck and upper arm hair for men. Men’s beard’s the same. Women need large probes in the beginning on their beards as well. A smaller probe is a hotter probe. With excellent magnification, one can use the larger probes since one can see really well. A larger probe can “touch” more surface area underneath and I think client sensation is better with a larger probe.

Every electrologist should have a supply of 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s and 6 size probes in their arsenal. Some only buy two sizes. It is espensive to have all sizes on hand, but they should make the investment.
