a questions about body hair removal in general

im so confused everyone. I dont know what to do, im getting married soon and i dont know what to do about my vellus dark hair and my coarse hair!

its all over my body, and i dont have a medical condition.

how can i be hair free all the time?

how do you guys go about your waxing/shaving/etc routine???

These temporary measures are helpful, but are a pain to do and they can cause the problem to get worse. They can affect your skin condition in a not so pleasant way. For full body removal with waxing, you should just go to a professional. I would not wax any facial hair if I were you unless you know that you will be getting electrolysis in the very new future. Shaving can be helpful if the hair is vellus hair and an advantage of shaving is it is cheap to do will not affect future hair growth like any kind of the pulling methods (waxing, tweezing, sugaring, threading).Disadvantages of shaving is stubbly feeling. Bleaching can buy you some time. There are no easy answers for you. Many women have their body hair waxed, but they usually end having to visit the salon every 3-6 weeks for the rest of their life.

Hi, this is 123654abc from above. Thanks for your reply.

I don’t find a problem in waxing for the rest of my life or spending money on it for the rest of my life.

I suppose my problem is wanting to be hair free all the time. In other words, I don’t want family or friends to see hair on my body.

For regular waxing, dont I have to wait for the hair to grow and then wax? That would mean I have to walk around with hair as it is growing.

I dont prefer to shave because of how it looks when it grows back.

I was thinking Ill do full body waxes and then use a hair buff mitt in between waxes for the dark vellus hair. But the hair has to be waxed again and that would mean I have to stop using the hair buff for the hair to grow so that it is able to be waxed!

I feel trapped! Is there a way to take care of this that I’ve missed?

I’ve been looking through the forums regularly and have tried to do my research! Thanks for your help everyone!

If you were to wax frequently, you would potentially end up increasing the thickness and darkness of the hair. You could also stimulate more growth in some situations.

You really need to look for a more permanent solution. You really would be left with shaving your entire body on a daily basis, or risking increases for the thickness, color, length, and number of hairs.

Hello and thank you for your reply.

I understand this but there are people such as lagirl who say she did not see any change in color, thickness, number. It’s a risk, but even if it grows back with a bit of change, I’m going to wax or buff or bleach it anyway. I’m just trying to say that whatever form it is in, its still visible and it still bothers me…

According to a previous post, laser is not helpful for vellus hair…neither is it permanent. Electrolysis is an option I suppose, but I’d rather take the risk of darker hair returning than scarring with electrolysis. How long would it even take for such large body parts with electrolysis? I would even run the risk of it returning. There are lots of people here who say the hair keeps growing back, they go to more electrolysis appts, and they finally give up…so I dont know about laser or electrolysis until the future when I have more money…

I’d rather use a hair buffing mitt than shave…a laser hair removal center told a lady to shave her hair a few times before she comes so that it comes back thicker and it is more easily treated with the laser…so I wouldn’t suggest shaving!

I guess I wont know until I try a combination of temporary solutions for some time! I’ll probably figure out a good routine by reading up on it more…thanks guys.

The possibility of scarring with electrolysis is actually lower than the possibility of thickening, darkening, and/or increased hair growth from plucking/waxing/threading.

The reason shaving is offered as the best temporary solution is because it DOES NOT cause any thickening/darkening, or increased growth. It WILL, however, cause the hair to go from having a neatly tappered flexible end, to haveing a thick, blunt, more noticeable end, as the naturally tapered end has been cut off, and the thicker trunk of the hair is now on the end of the hair.

The largest hurdle for someone who wants as much hair removal as you seem to suggest is the work needed just to get to a first clearance on any area. Then one faces the up hill battle to maintain the area. I would suggest that you start in one place, and work your way towards others, after you get one area under control.

If you want vellus hair removed with electrolysis, that is a great option. Scarring? Unless there is a numbskull operating the equipment, there won’t be any scarring. I am not an electrologist but it seems to me, removal of vellus hairs would require less of a jolt than normal hairs because it is not so deeply rooted and thick. I think there would be more of a risk for the thicker hairs because it requires a higher setting. And, even then, a skilled electrologist will leave no scarring.

Well, that is true. Vellus hairs don’t require a lot of muscle power to treat them. Scarring is rare. Hyperpigmentation is not so rare especially when one gets hyperpig easily from other sources, such as, sunlight, bug bites, cuts, dog bites, tweezing, waxing. If you freckle easily, then even the best electrolysis care can stimulate those pigment cells and thus cause some hyperpig. It subsides over the months after the hair is removed. Scarring is something that happens when people self-administer electrolysis or if an electrologist is not well-trained and updated with continuing education by their organization or by other electrologists who unselfishly mentor other electrologists.
