A guy's treatment diary

My LHR settings were 20J, 18mm, and 5ms (for the first 2 sessions) and 3ms (for the final 4 sessions). All were on a Candela Gentlemax.

I’m assuming this was on the alexandrite part of the machine since you’re pretty light, right?

Thanks for the info!

Just to add a confirmation:

  • I used EMLA (and other numbing creams) for LHR and electrolysis and really felt no difference. Certain parts hurt more than others and the pain reduced only over time when less hair was being treated.
  • I am a qualified candidate (light skin, dark hair, etc) for LHR and used two well-known established providers in DFW and had very slight results from properly scheduled treatments. I was disappointed and found electrolysis to be the only solution for me…

Bryce, without your love, you just confirm that shallower insertions are also less painful. You end up as an expert on the subject. Soon we’ll see you lecturing.

Your dead electrologist and your ability to perform half the work, have achieved a great triumph. It is also possible that such work may be exceeded in speed, comfort and respect of the skin. In your conclusions you could add that with the same machine, two people can take two different paths (one longer and one shorter) to reach the same destination: success.

Hello Tex,
*Is may not have sufficient density applied anesthetic cream? I find it strange that you have not noticed a difference. Some people take longer to be impervious area after application and removal. We noticed that some customers felt the most insensitive one hour after the product recall. I do not know if this is any good or advice comes too late.

*… the only solution for me …[color:#FF0000] AND FOR MANY PEOPLE [/color].

Sincerely yours

Josefa

Usually, the people who say they didn’t notice a difference after using a numbing cream are the ones who don’t leave it on for long enough and put on a thick enough layer. The instructions provided are usually too conservative.

Lagirl, I agree with you, (if I have misinterpreted your words, of course). Greetings

Dear Diary,

Electrolysis is moving along well. Since early December 2009, I have logged 34 hours on the table for my left side. 10 of those hours have been upkeep on my left shoulder, leaving the remaining 24 as first clearance of my whole left shoulder/upper arm and about 1/3 down my left back. So far, the last 5 months has cost about $2300.

I estimate I will need another 15 hours of clearance to get the next 1/3rd of my back, at which point I will move into the maintenance phase of the project and, hopefully, reduce my time on the table to 2-3 hours biweekly.

I am saving the lower back for the very last stage of this project, as I can easily shave this area and I don’t find it quite as offensive as the rest of the hair.

Skin quality is left better than I hoped for, although I think I will still suffer from some hypopigmentation or light scar tissue on the surface.

Total cost thus far for all electrolysis has been $6,000 and another $1,000 for the 6 LHR sessions.

Until next time,

Bryce

Hey Bryce,

Is that $6000 in electrolysis since you started the left side or is that including what you spent on the right side? Im assuming its just for the left.

“All” means all.

Bryce all I have to say is Respect!!! I’m gonna put in my two cents here and give you some info you might thank me for in the future.
Me an you have almost identical hair skin patterns. I’m in my late 20’s just like you and can tell you forsure that its your genetics and hormones playing a huge role as why its so difficult to remove this hair. Just like you I want the back shoulder done asap and chest and abdomen reduced to a certain degree. Ive found out a couple important things from hair removal. One the laser you use is extremly important. Two the area you use it on is also important. My shoulder had no response to the laser and I actually grew more hair there becuase of this. The rest of my back had very similar reduction as yours the one spot that worked phenomonally was the back of my neck. Ive done 25 plus treatments laser on my chest and stomache with reduction but still not where i want it to be, i think another 5-10 treatments will do. Ive done about 20 laser treatment on back and shoulder and my back has seen great results but not clear more like 60% less. Ive also had James clear my shoulder and part of my back 4 years ago with electrolysis. Ive now decided thanks to your example that I will clear my back and shoulders with James and whom else (electrolysis only). And do a few more laser treatments on my chest and stomach cause it only costs me about 150 bucks and doesnt hurt as much and im kool with 40% chest ab hair cause i think its manly.
So my adivce for you is to find a person with a Yag laser, this laser penetrates much deeper than the rest, I would find the cheapest provider cause at the end of the day a yag is yag is a diode is a diode all those fancy tips and peices BS… Trust me just try one on you back neck probably cheap like under 100 bucks and get back to me on this(YAG) than if that works to your liking give your chest and abdomen a try. As far as what your doing with electrolysis dude its the only way for me and you, others get better results my brother got 90% removal and i didnt soo stick with what works. Do not and i Mean do not let them zap your clear areas with a laser even for one hair it will make you grow new hair especially on the shoulders. I’m not sure if james told you but tea tree oil works wonders on infected and sensitive skin, give that a try to speed up your healing. Finally once your comfortable enough to take your shirt off and give it a little tan all those little spots and scars will fade your skin needs sun. Ive been through what you have and been doing it for 10 years and youve beaten me in only 4 cause you chose the right route electrolysis.
GL with the rest , maybe ill post some pics when i start up my removal so you can get a glimpse of what laser can do for you front and where im at with my back and shoulders.

CHEERS
B

I am sure there are people laughing on the floor right now. Did James forget to tell someone about Tea Tree Oil?

Vitamin C, D-3 (that stuff your skin makes when you get sun exposure minus sun tan lotion) zinc and Para Amino Benzoic Acid (PABA) are also very good for the skin when it is time to heal. PABA is also a treatment for vitiligo. Although, unlike Michael Jackson’s treatment program, it replaces pigment, instead of stripping away what you have to lighten all your skin.

Glad you poked your head in and said hello to everyone again “B”.

Stevo, could you post your story on the laser forum? Can you include laser type and settings? That’s a lot of treatments btw. You shouldn’t need more than 8 laser treatments or so if treatment settings are high enough and are affecting the hair. Whatever you see after that is probably too fine to treat with laser and time to switch to electrolysis.

Thanks for dropping in. My electrolysis is coming along slowly and steadily, all is well. At this point I can shave any untreated area on my lower back and have a clear look. I no longer hesitate to take my shirt off at the gym and have even taken up swimming class. I will post more results and data sometime late 2010.

Hi, Bryce
Do you still have hypo/hyper pigmentation on your back??

Yes, there are little white spots mostly on my shoulder that could be scar tissue or hypopigmentation, but the skin continues to improve. I don’t think it’ll ever be perfect but I prefer it to the hair. Lesser of two evils, I suppose.

I think one of my findings is going to be that, while laser didn’t remove much hair, it did make it thinner and therefore the electrolysis didn’t have to be as harsh on my skin. The left side of my back and shoulders doesn’t have nearly the skin damage. Of course, because the practitioner changed, it could just be the new practitioner is better.

Hey bryce after you initial clearing how many re clearings did you need to acheive your awesome results!!! Your skin on the right side from the pics looks great and i put your reduction at 99% I just finished both my shoulders and it took the electrologist 5.5 hours i think i have another 10 to go to clear the rest of my areas, im just wondering how many times this will take to notice good results?

Bryce how long did it take for these hypopigmentation to show up on your skin??

Stevo: Per shoulder 8 hours to clear initially, 32 more hours in upkeep spread over a year. I could dig up the number of visits, but probably 8-14.

Roma: It happened pretty fast, within a month. Quite a bit of what I thought was hypopigmentation was actually a hair trying to push its way up. Once it popped out, the discoloration went away.

HEy bryce how goes it, are you near completion. I’m tipping over the 40 hour mark and man it seems really slow ::frowning:
