A couple of questions.

Hi, I’m a female with PCOS and a pre-diabetic (bmi is good as is everything else). I have vellus hair everywhere except for about 100 or so terminal, very-black hairs on my chin. I was thinking of laser for the chin hairs but after reading about it causing nearby hair to turn terminal, I’ll probably opt for electrology. Anyway, I have a couple of questions.

My endocrinologist said that I could start electrology at anytime, even though we’ve yet to decide on what treatment or medication I should go on to lower my hormones. My testosterone is only a little over the limit (and has actually gone down a bit since my last blood test – probably due to my shedding a couple of pounds). Still, I’ve always read that one should start treating hair once hormones are completely under control. Is it ok for me to start now? (I’m not planning to start any permanent hair removal till about late-February or early March.)

Also, I have an event to attend in August. If I started the electrology in March would the hair be a little less coarse by then? By less coarse, I mean would Nair be able to take care of the job while I’m away? Right now, Nair works on everything but my chin hair.

Thanks!

It sounds like you are doing the right things to keep your health good. Congratulations!

Regarding that hair, start the electrology treatments any time. Starting when you plan should enable you to be in great shape for the event in August. The amount of hair you currently have will be less.

Don’t be surprised if you have more than 100 hairs on your chin. Are you tweezing any?

Thanks for replying, Barbara.

I have alternated between tweezing and trimming (with one of those nose hair-type trimmers) my chin hair. Everything else I use Nair on. The chin hair is pretty thick, and some of them run deep.
