6 teatments so far....

Hello, just thought I’d update everyone with my treatments so far. I am a skin type II, Bitish male, going with the london premier laser clinic in nottinghill using the gentlelase laser with spotsize 18mm and 18j.

I finished my 6th treatment on friday and am currently awaiting the shedding phase. However throughout these treatments I have experienced shedding but over time the hair slowly grows back lighter before becoming darker again so I am probably expecting this to happen again ( fingers crossed it won’t) I was wondering if maybe I would respond better with a diode laser? perhaps the lightsheer? with theprivateclinic in london, this is because a year and a half ago I did own a tria laser hair removal system which seemed towork but was a lot of effort to constantly use so maybe a diode would work better? Or am I completely blind to notice that these treatments so far have done me good afterall the hair on my arms was thick and having left a patch on my arm for 12 weeks all the hair did come back on that patch, its difficult for me to see and weigh if this is working? sorry if I am confusing anyone.

Alexandrites (GentleLASE) are better than Diodes so I wouldn’t switch. The settings are pretty good, you may want to see if they can go a little higher but you should get results at 18 joules.

You didn’t mention what area you are treating? I find with my forearms they shed, stay smooth then come back very fine then after awhile seem to be hairy again and I keep thinking it’s not working. It’s not until I look at old pictures of myself where I see what a big change there has been. If the hair is dark it’s not a huge deal, the biggest thing is that it’s not coarse. If you’re getting coarse hair coming back after 6 treatments then something might be up but if it’s all fine hair then that’s normal and you may not get many further results.

It comes back dark and coarse which is just annoying. I’m having my full arms treated including hands and fingers. I get patches of sparse hair but closely under light I can see hairs reaching out of the follicles again. The follicles on my arms just don’t ever seem to look natural because I think they still produce hairs so they never close up its as if the hair is expected to grow back in that follicle again. I do get areas and patches of smoothness but underneath that it just seems the hair is waiting to grow back. Aftr about 5 weeks it all seems to start crawling back in. Are arms a stubborn area to treat? Am I expecting too much from 6 treatments? Does it normally take longer/more treatments? Should I give up trying? and is there anything anyone can recommend better to me? Thank you for all your help, I know I can seem to be a bit of a scatty overly anxious paranoid clueless person!

hello alala.

Did you ever submit a picture of your arms?

You have chosen a great laser and a diode wouldn’t necessarily have been better. Have they ever gone above 18 joules to treat you? Arm hair is not more stubborn than other hair. If your treatments were every 9- 10 - 12 weeks apart and the hair shed, then that is a clue that something good may be happening. If you still have some coarse hair to treat, talk to them about going higher to get those last stalwarts.

Most arm cases usually resolve well in 4-6 treatments. Are you talking with your laser specialist about your concerns?

IF YOUR HAIR IS NO LONGER COARSE AND DARK, then you got what you got out of this. Many think that softer, lighter, finer hair equals success.

I’m not a laser user (foolishly restricted in my State), but would like to address the issue of “finer hair coming in after treatment.” For decades, electrologists called this observable phenomenon “the breaking down process.” After a treatment, it appeared that finer hairs were coming in and could be “broken down” by further treatment. I think this is a fallacy.

An emerging early anagen hair always appears finer. However as the hair enters full anagen depth, it again looks like a dark coarse hair. If an electrologist clears an area, the only hairs that emerge are the early anagen (fine appearing) hairs. It’s just the way it is.

Again, I am not speaking to laser — I do not know your parameters or experiences. But for electrolysis, the “breaking down process,” is pretty much nonsense in my opinion. You either kill-off the follicle or you don’t. Of course it comes back “lighter” but will eventually “get up steam” and look like it’s former self.

Can you post photos? “Coarse” is relative.

How often are your treatments spaced?

Something is off here. The machine and settings are good, so there is something else at play.

Diode isn’t going to be better. You’re using the most powerful machine at good settings.

I suspect your hair is not coarse enough.
