4 years on, not much success

Hello,

I’m new here and not sure if I’m posting in the right place. Apologies if I’m not.

I’m a female who has been going to the same electrolysis for almost four years now, working on my face (sides, upper lip). I have had a significant amount of time spent on the upper lip over these four years, and although there is less hair, I expected by now that it would be cleared. Am I expecting too much or is it time to find another electrolysis?

Thanks

I suppose it’s what “4-years” means? And, what “a significant amount of time” means? See, what’s “significant” to you, might not be to the experts here on Hairtell. Maybe it’s appropriate?

It would be better for you to disclose the actual “treatment hours” you have spent on your face, and the extent of the hair problem.

For example, I just saw one of my clients who mentioned that she’s “been coming to me for ‘over’ 30-years!” And, actually that’s true.

However, in that entire period, she has not completed even 2-hours of treatment time. Her last 15-minute treatment with me was more than 15-years ago. She has never done consecutive treatments. I mean she will have a treatment and then I won’t see her for several years. (And, of course, she had been tweezing right up until the time of her appointment.)

So, there you have it. As far as getting her to commit to really getting this job done? I just gave up.

Frankly, I commonly finish off beards in less overall time than the “pesky” cases of “not so much” facial hair on women.

So, take the time and add up the actual hours you have spent on this project. This will give us a better chance to speak to your case.

Frankly it seems like a man’s beard doesn’t hold a candle to dealing with womens facial hair in terms of clearing. I have done countless hours on my face albeit with people here there and everywhere and many of the same hairs that have certainly been zapped at least 6 times are still returning! I know for certain because there’s at least five hairs that I have which stand on their own in particular spots, have been treated many times and Are still coming back. My sister had a beautiful job done in another province so I have to say it’s all in the skill of the zapper, and there are a lot of zappers out there without a lot of skill.

Actually, I do agree with Danika about the grinding difficulty in really finishing off a woman’s face. These cases are so unsatisfying for me that I will not take every-day “face clients” unless it’s really a significant amount of facial hair … really “bad.” (I always finish off the super “bad” cases … not the “fluffy stuff.”)

Still, I would like a real read-out of “I have done countless hours on my face.”

“Countless” means “unable to count because the number is so high” … like the US National Debt for example.

If you have had electrolysis, you have done a finite amount of time … and, that would be nice to know beyond the hyperbole.

Whoa on the assumptions Danika.
As someone who regularly removes mens beards from womens faces I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt they are more dense , thicker, and present every bit as much of a challenge if not more so than any CIS womans hair. That it can and is done safely and effectively every day in my province.
I would also point out to you, that you are in cana-duh. There is absolutely no qualification one can recieve to perform electrolysis. There are some who lack skill, and others who have a passion for removing hair. But there is no license you can get, no format to follow to perfom electrolysis. It is completely unmoderated medium in this country. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt there are at least a half dozen electrologists in my city alone that I would have no problem recommending their skills. But you wont find any paper or certification that says so ( ok, at least one is a CPE and posts here.) Caveate empor.
Having known you and spoken to you privately,I can say I honestly dont believe you shoud DIY.You dont have a lifestyle that would allow you to dedicate the time to learning the skill well for yourself, so you will need to seek out those professionals with a thirst for killing hair. They exist.

Like Michael says has the treatment been 4 years constant at a given gap between treatments.

Electrolyisis should be 2 things either decreasing in time at each treatment or length between treatments.

I started 14 months ago, 1 area is complete another is nearly complete and one I only started 5 months ago.

I have always had 10 minute sessions but these started at going every 2 weeks then 3 weeks then 4 weeks then 5-6 last treatment was a 8 week gap and of course I added up the extra treatment area 5 months ago.

If I was still going every 2 weeks to cover the area I started out with I would be into clinical depression right now the state I started out.

I do believe I would be one of those fluffy cases Michael talks about but either way it can be just as depression for us girls.

If you could say when you started what length of time you were going for if you have any large gaps between where you did anything silly like going back to plucking and what the length of time for current treatments is and gaps between treatments to compare with how you started out. x

Excellent comments as usual, Helen.

Electrolysis: I HATE electrolysis (for many reasons). However, as you so correctly state, the procedure is a PROCEDURE; not a one-time “hit or miss” affair going “now and then to different people” whenever you fell like it.

You will get results if you stick with the plan. Yes, the plan is horrible and it always takes too long and is overall not pleasant whatsoever.

I’m super happy that you are getting good results, Helen … you made my day! Actually, success stories make me happy and encourage me to keep “fighting the fight” … against HAIRS! (I hate hairs even more than electro-ouch-ouch—olysis.)

Oh damn! What happened … ?

I just got eaten by the Hairtell monster …

Something like this …

Excellent comments Helen, as usual. As you state, electrolysis is a procedure; not a one-time thing that you do here and there, whenever you feel like it.

I’m super-happy you are getting results and you probably feel that you have earned it too … because you have.

Never underestimate the resolve of our clients and their willingness to submit their precious bodies to the medieval torture called “electrolysis.”

I hate electrolysis … (it really is horrible) … but hate hairs even more. And there it is!

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the delayed response and thank you for getting back to me.

Here’s some more information about the treatments I have received:

  • All my appointments have been for a minimum of 1 hour, with sometimes this being increased to 1.5 to 2 hours. At first the majority of the hour was spent on the sides of the face with 15 minutes spent on the upper lip. In the past couple of years, the majority of the hour has been spent on the upper lip.

  • Out of the 52 weeks in a year, on average I have had a session for about 40 of these weeks, once a week, generally with a one week gap in between.

  • Although there has been a good improvement in the upper lip, the hair is still very thick and coarse. I may be wrong but I just expected it to be a lot better after all this time. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

  • I have not plucked the hair since starting my treatment four years ago.

Any input would be greatly appreciated as I’m not really sure if these results are normal or not.

Thanks!

I’m sorry to say that if you have seen no results then you may have wasted your time with this electrologist. Even taking the bare minimum of an hour for fourty hours that’s over 160 hours of treatment. You should have seen considerable reduction if not clearance in that amount of time.
To put it into perspective, most faces (wheather male female or TG) pros are able to completely remove in 100-300 hours depending on a multitude of factors.
You may have a claim against your electrologist. For that amount of money and time lost, I might consider persuing that. I’m not usually a “sue em” kinda gal but it seems to me you have been grossly ripped off.
160 hours and ZERO progress? I have to wonder if her machine even works. Surely the electrologist would notice when they arent getting clean releases? Plain incompetence.
