Hello,
So I moved away from Ottawa and now I had to find a new electrologist. I tried this one lady who seemed very nice.
I might ask a difficult question but any comments would be appreciated.
I am doing electrolysis on my upper cheeks. I have been going since January, 13 treatments. The treatments were either 1 hr, 45 mins or 30 mins. Every appointment I got all visible hairs removed.
Since I am doing only my “upper cheeks” you can compare the hairs there to those on my lower cheeks (where a man has a beard line). The lady I saw 2 days ago was surprised at how thick the hairs that have been treated were.
I could see she was trying to be nice but she was saying that if you had 13 treaments, and every time all hairs available were treated then the hairs on my upper cheeks should have been thinner than those on lower cheeks if the electrolysis was done properly.
Do you agree or not? Was I supposed to see noticeable hair thinning from electrolysis after 13 treatments, each time removing all hairs that are available? Note that since I began treatment I have not tweezed any hairs but I used to do that for maybe 5 years before I began treatment.
Thank you people!!
I have a question about your previous treatments. Did it take an hour in the beginning, decreasing to 30 minutes at the end?
If hairs are treated in such a way that you got partial destruction of the follicle, then the hair size becomes smaller. (But previously treated hairs are growing again in this case.) If the hair follicle was treated in such a way that it’s hair growing ability was stopped at first treatment - then you would not see a reduction of hair diameter…but you would still be seeing regular diameter hairs cycling in.
This is where our communication to the consumer gets confusing. Does thinning hair mean smaller diameter hairs or less hair?
How does she know if the thicker hairs she is seeing is new growth or regrowth? It takes at least nine months for EVERY hair to come to the surface JUST ONE TIME. You are a third of the way there. Those hairs can still present as thick hairs if they have never been treated. It’s just too early to make that assessment.
I wouldn’t worry. Jut keep treating and clearing any hair that presents itself. You will see a difference in hair structure between months six through nine if all is being done correctly.
Dee
sorry people I was out of town for a week!
Let me give you more information and answer questions.
Barbara, here is a typical sequence that happened for those 4 months. Week 1: 60 mins, week 2: 45 mins, Week 3: 30 mins.
Then I took a week off, so we move on to week 5.
Week 5: 60 mins, week 6: 45 mins, week 7: 30 mins
By thinning hair I am talking about smaller diameter.
Dee, thanks for the hope.
What I want to also say is that with this new lady she is more aggressive. The heat level is much higher than with the other lady. Her idea is you need this high heat level to treat those dark hairs. Also I am not too sure how to describe this, but with this lady it does not feel like any hairs are taken out. I cannot feel anything coming off but yet the hairs are removed. Previously, I did feel like something came off. It did not feel like tweezing but I felt it everytime a hair was removed.
Thanks for your input Barbara and Dee!!!
With the progressive elimination of all growing hairs, it sounds like you are getting there. Sounds like the more recent electrologist will “get’er done” (Did I really say that?)
I’m not sure what you mean by not feeling anything. You should feel a zap and you should feel the hair slide out without any resistance afterwards. There should be no tweezing feeling.
I think what cool guy is saying is that the hairs came out smooth as butta! Not that he couldn’t feel the current. As an electrologist, I love those slippery, buttery releases.
Will the hair that slides out after, leave a hole that will fill in?
I notice some of the hairs on my face seem to be embedded in the skin and it feels like if they were not there, a depression would be there instead…
Do you go in to these treatments unshaven?
Hair doesn’t create holes. That “hole” is called a pore. It’s there regardless of the hair and depends on your skin type, condition, genetics, etc. Sometimes after the hair is removed, pores can close a bit.
Do you mean you have ingrowns? An electrologist can safely remove those.
Yes, the hair needs to be there to treat for electrolysis. It needs to be long enough to be grabbed with tweezers.
