I have been going for electroysis for two hrs/wk ($120/wk!) since September 2009.
I have mixed results to date:
Few have cleared
Majority are getting lighter (thickness and colour)
Many are still very dark and coarse
I have slightly higher testosterone levels, which have been regulated with an androgen blocking medication, but have had no effect on the hair.
My question – do you think that I’m paying too much? Is my technician going too slowly? (2 hours to clear lower cheek, jawline and part of kneck. Depending on regroth, sometimes she takes strays off my chest and stomach.)
Is your face getting cleared each time you go in? You should start seeing the time it takes go down shortly. But I bet there are a LOT of hairs on the face. Persist!
That price is reasonable. We don’t know how much hair you have, so you would need to share the type of electrolysis being used and how many hairs per minute are being removed in order for us to judge their speed.
Also, are you getting clearance every time? The way to do this correctly is to go in for longer and more frequently to start to get a clearance and then come in as soon as new hair pops up to kill it while it’s weak. That way, you’re also almost always hairfree.
$60 per hour sounds great- I’m paying $90 here in Pittsburgh. I’m interested to hear how this goes for you as I’m concerned about getting to my first full clearance as well and it seems that we have similar growth (although mine is all facial/neck, nothing on the chest/stomach). I’m only 1.75 hours in and we seem to be moving slowly but surely.
From what I can glean from your posting you’ve had about 5-6 months worth of electrolyis, which probably amounts to about 20 plus hours in total.
Does that sound about right? I’m surprised that you haven’t achieved full clearance within a two hour session though? What method is she using, blend or thermolyis?
Do you know the make and model of machine she is using?
I think the amount of original hair is what’s in question. I have pretty heavy (but nowhere near normal male beard thickness) facial hair on my cheeks, chin, jawline and neck and I’m estimating that it is probably going to take a total of 12-15 hours to get to a first full clearance, judging on how quickly we’re working at this point. My practitioner uses blend and I’m going in for two 90 minute appointments a week (I’m a little over 3 hours in at this point). Does my estimation of 12-15 hours sound outrageous? She does have to treat some hairs twice.
