2 years later, still PIH from LHR

Hi all,

I have a bad history with LHR. I had it done 10+ years ago when I didn’t know any better. The laser wasn’t right, the treatments were every 2 weeks (sometimes every week). I got burned badly, but luckily healed without scarring.

However, I was left with a strip adjacent to my right-sideburn.

Flash-forward to 2013 summer. I had LHR again (and before this, I had 1 Fraxel in 2007 summer and 1 session of LHR in the fall of that year).

Things went well. Hair was coming out. Of course, none of this was going to be permanent. I had at least 5 treatments total.

2 years later almost, and I have full regrowth and maybe some induced growth. But what is worst of all is that I was left with a spot of PIH that has persisted to this day. I went on an Obagi regimen but didn’t follow through with it completely (ran out of toner and got inconsistent with applying the HQ after I read that HQ can make matters worse).

Here is how things looked in June:

Its more or less the same now. But after I shave, it looks red.

It seems odd that there would be such a localized irritation. Has anyone encountered a similar reaction before?

I recall the laser being a nd:yag. The technician wasn’t very good. I remember the exact moment when I believe she burned me.

Obaji is good for lightening brown spots, but not sure if its ment for red spots. (I use obaji) You don’t have to use the whole system to see results of lightening… just use the step 3 Clear. You can apply it directly on the discolored area 2x’s a day and be sure to wear spf !

Laser burns are bad… sorry you had a bad experience. Laser doesn’t work for all people… you should not try it again because too many treatments too frequent can cause skin issues . The skin needs time to repair .

You should probably see a Dermatologist and have a MD give you some advice.

Yea I guess I should see a derm.

I was told that a nd: yag might be able to treat it.

It’s so weird because it’s so faint but the resulting optical effect from a distance makes it look darker.

I don’t know what to do with it. A concealer perfectly masks it though.
