15mm on Gentlelase?

31 M, have had four treatments to clear dense hair on chest and stomach and patches of hair on shoulders and back. the results have been phenomenal so far, but there are still going to be future treatments.

Using Gentlelase and treatment ladder has esclated so that the two treatments ago it was 16J/18mm and last treatment was 18J/18mm on front and 20J/18mm on back and shoulders.

Some of the hair on the shoulders and back seem to come back more quickly. They are typically finer, lighter hair. I’m considering for the next treatment having the practitioner use a smaller spot size to target the finer hair on my back and shoulder. I am not too nervous about induced growth yet, because worse case scenario isn’t terrible. Is the conversion to 15mm the right approach?

What joule level is equivalent to 18J @ 18mm? Does the smaller spot size higher Joules hurt more, less or the same as the equivalent setting on 18mm?

I’ll post pics pretty soon. You all will be impressed!

No stay with 18, larger spot size penetrates deeper. The reason you use higher joules on lower spot size is because it doesn’t hit as deep so you need higher settings.

i was under the impression that finer/thinner hair may be rooted closer to the surface such that one might benefit from the 15mm spot size precisely because it penetrates less deeply.

You’re better to use the largest spot size you can. Even if the root is closer to the surface and the light penetrates deeper than the root, it’s still hitting it and then some.

Some professionals use the approach of lowering the spot size (and upping the joules proportionally) to target finer hair. There is no agreement or studies on this yet. It can be worth a try. Though I would have very modest expectations, if any. Can you post photos so we can see how fine the hair is? How often are your treatments spaced? It can be worth it to wait until later anagen when hairs get more coarse.

Max on 15mm is 30J.
