15 yrs. ago I was visiting an electrolysis. She and her daughter would each work on one side for an two hours once a week. Bikini line and if it became clear upper thigh/butt area. This was for two years until I moved to another state. It eventually all grew back and I am now in my early 40’s. I would still love my bikini line hair free as I still get the rash of red bumps from shaving. I realize there aren’t many more “bikini” wearing years for me LOL. So with the new IPL being advertised as semipremanent do you think I should go that route or would electrolysis finally work permanently?
two years sounds long enough to obtain permanent results… i wonder why you didnt achieve that.
How quickly did the hair “come back”? If it was within 3-5 months, all you got was expensive plucking (unless you didn’t go every week for 2 years without breaks as you mention).
Laser IS permanent and is GREAT for bikini hair, as long as you have dark coarse dense hair there. It would be cheaper and will only take 6-8 treatments spaced 2-3 months apart. IPL is not recommended as it’s a lot less effective. If you’re going to do it, do it right by researching the right type of laser and experienced clinic to perform it. You can find lots of recommendations on this forum by running a search.
Electrolysis is possible as well. It’s just cheaper and more efficient to at least start with laser on this area and remove 90-95% of the hair first. If you decide you want 100% gone, you can finish with electrolysis on the remaining fine hairs.
I have no idea why it wasn’t permanent. I did go every week faithfully. In those days it was $30 per tech/hour. Thus, each week I wrote a check for $60. Also, in those days (when there was such a thing as good health insurance) I would get a toothpaste tube size of EMLA or $5.00. So I remember wrapping myself in cellophane for an hour and driving there looking like a freak so I couldn’t feel the burn. I am very fair skinned (even sunburn in the shade LOL) with thick, dark pubic hair all over my legs and private area. But light blonde hair and eyebrows.
I guess I am going to have to do more homework in that I thought laser and IPL were the same thing. I would love to think I could even go a few days with no red rashy bumps in the bikini area.
Going faithfully every week does not equal permanent hair removal with the electrolysis process. So much more is needed! It’s all about skill using the proper intensity and timing with the proper size of probe, with accurate insertions. No hair can survive if all is done properly. You got the time thing down perfectly, but the person on the other side probably did not serve you well. Electrolysis is hard to master well.
I really would go forward and get laser on this area first.
Have you seen Susan Lucci lately? You can have many, many more bikini wearing years my dear lady.
It is hard to say what happenend here. Based on your report, I don’t know if you got clearance, that lasted some time, and then new hairs grew, or if you were always seeing the hair return without any reduction in the number of hairs.
I have found that this area clears out pretty well, once the first two full clearances comes through. Only those who want every last whisp of a hair removed are still seeing me after 18 months.

You are still young, you have over half your life to be hair free so I would go for it. The big question is did the hair come back slowly or rapidly. Find someone good in your area where ever that is. (no one puts their location on their information, why is that, I am not afraid to tell people where I am from.)
the hair slowly came back within the next 6 months of moving away. But I also had that black line of hair from belly button down (from having a baby) and that never came back. Nor did my eyebrows. They have never seen another tweezer. I will start doing my homework then because I would love to have a nice bikini line.
Did you do electrolysis the full two year on your bikini area or did you start your treatments on other areas then move to the bikini line area.
