I am a 29 years old female with the hair problem on my chin. I have had two laser treatments with Light Sheer. The first time it somewhat hurt, but I think mostly because I did not know what to expect, but the second time I was totally fine. I had waxed my brows a few days before, and waxing was just as painful as the Light Sheer. Totally tolerable!
After my first treatment, I did not have a lot of shading, and I could shave right away without stubbly hairs left, after the second one however, (it has been a week already), I still cannot get a clear shave. Is it a good sign?
Anyway, after the first treatment I shaved for about four weeks without having a shadow, and the last two weeks before treatment, I could not get a good smooth shave, and had to start putting large amounts of make up on my chin again.
I hope this laser thing works; I am so tired of dealing with this problem!
I’ve been “lasering” my upper lip (or mustache as I like to call it!!) for about 3 years now. I’ve had all up about 8-10 visits. I have a lot LESS hair than I had before, but it still is kind of there. I usually wait about 3-4 months between each laser treatment now. I keep the hairs trimmed with scissors and they are nowhere near as noticeable as they were before - so I’m happy. Only thing is - i dont think they will ALL ever go away!! I have had much better results on my underarms (only done that about 3-4 times) I only have about 6 hairs under each armpit now and they are soft and hardly noticeable. I don’t really need to wax anymore! I never shaved my upper lip and “goatee”, I used to bleach it or wax it. I have also used laser on my bikini line and that has helped with the ingrowns! I have one lasered the bikini line twice and that has been great too (hurts like hell though!) - there is about 60% less hair there. Only problem is that i’m not sure if I should get the rest done (as in, like having a Brazilian, which is what I usually do with wax) because i’m scared to have laser on the “tender” bits. Has anyone else had that done?
You will find a wealth of information on hair removal on the, as you say, “tender bits” in the mature section of this site.
You may be surprised at what you find to be the consensus there on the subject of effective hair removal in an area one would like to get over with as soon as possible from those who have actually had it done.

Sounds like you should talk to someone about Laser Hair Removal. I was like you, plucking an hour a day atleast. Desperate to stop, I tried Lightsheer Diode Laser and I am extemely pleased so far. Just have to be patient the first couple weeks after treatment because the hairs might get “stuck” but they DO shed out. I didn’t think they would, but they did. If you read my previous posts, you will see what I mean.

i just had my first treatment on the 1st of july…i was very very scared and it did hurt a lot now after 10 days my hair on my chin have started to shed, but when i pull them…is it ok to pull out the hairs and will they grow back again …the hairs which have shed out are they permanently dead rooted hair
i will be grateful if you reply
YOU SHOULD NOT PLUCK, OR TWEEZE OR WAX HAIR on the areas that you are doing laser treatment. Every time you pluck a hair, the follicle becomes stronger, but your ultimate goal in this crusade against the unwanted hair is to destroy the follicle, only then you will achieve permanent results. You should shave in between your sessions.
I am surprised your laser practioner did not go over this stuff with you. Did you have your first laser of session without all the details of how it works explained to you?
Hello:
You shouldn’t “pluck” them out. If you can gently slide them out with your finger nail, that would be better. I think if you pluck them, that will promote new growth. Once they have shed, you should be smooth for a few weeks. They will eventually release from the skin on their own as well. (remember that the laser only reduces the growth and thickness of the hairs by 20% each time, therefore approxiamately 80% will grow back finer and lighter before your next treatment) You may feel the need to shave every couple of days if you can feel sparse regrowth. It will get easier the second time and you will know what to expect from your body. Even after my second treatment, I still feel that little bit of stubble even though it is unnoticable. It is a work in progress. Gotta be patient, it’s not going to be all gone after a couple of treatments. In fact you may have a few stubborn hairs at the end of all your treatments, and you can have those taken care of with electrolysis permanently. Good Luck and Have a great day.

Polki.</strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size=“2” face=“Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif”>hi to polki and bebe
i have not tweezed them at all by pulling them i meant by my fingers…the hairs are sliding out.i have not used a tweezer since i have started the treatment…what i was concerned was the hairs which are falling out will they come back again or are they gone for good. i have seen a clearing of about 50% hairs since my first treatment and now i have empty patches on my chin. The rest hairs are stubborn and do not come out by pulling…i was actually worried about that will these hairs which have shedded grow back again. My doctor says i can have the second treatment after 1 month instead of the usual 6 weeks other doctors prefer.I also have a few white hairs will i get rid of them as well.
it is so nice to see u ppl responding
good luck and have wonderful days ahead

If they are sliding out that is great!! Whether or not they will grow back, I don’t know. All I know is that the laser gets them all when you are treated and some are just “stuck”. The rate of hairs that are gone is individual. Sounds like you have had great success so far. In my experience even the stubborn ones that don’t want to come easily, will eventually fall out as well. I don’t think that you can determine what hairs are the ones coming back. If you can see patches, then I would assume that the bald areas are the ones that are clearing first. I believe this all has to do with the cycle of hair growth each hair is in. Some take more zaps. Also I was told that the white hairs are hard-to-impossible to treat with laser and you will need to have those ones taked care of with electrolysis because the folicles have to colour and the laser wouldn’t be able to get them. Hope this helps.
take care bebba
hi bebba
since my first treatment which was on the 31st of july i have not tweezed nor have i used a razor ,somehow a woman using a razor on her chin gives me the creeps i just cannot do that instead i am using a plaster to cover my chin when i go out but today i have noticed that almost 70% of my chin hair have come out …though i have pulled them out with my finger but i have bald and empty patches throughout …i still yet have to see whether they grow back again …is it ok to have the next treatment after a month …i am still wondering that the hair fallen out will they grow back i think i just need to keep my fingers crossed
and thanks for your response is great to know we can talk about and release our burdens here

If you can get away without shaving, all the power to ya. I unfortunately have to once they start to grow back. Hopefully after the 4th or 5th treatment, I can avoid the razor. Hard to say if those hairs will come back and when.
Re: one month between treatment. I was told that the second treatment HAD to be between 8-9 weeks after first. Very important to the end result. I can’t remember why, I think because of the hair growth cycle. And then 6 weeks between the rest of the treatments. Could this be different for different lasers??? I am not sure. Maybe get a second opinion on that one. Good Luck and take care
Hi all:
Just an update. I am going to my 3rd Lightsheer treatment on my face in 2 weeks. Today was the first day in 3-4 weeks that I have to shave. And I only really need to shave the upper lip. I am very impressed with the results so far
I was camping for a week and didn’t even have to think about my facial hair once!!! What freedom! If only I could afford to have the rest of my body done, I would!!! Although despite my efforts, I did recieve a slight tan. I only hope it fades before my appointment. Anyone know how much of a tan will hinder the treatments? I have very light olive toned skin (type 3)and I did wear 30 and 40 SPF the whole time and reapplied every hour. I still got a bit of a tan though. Any input is appreciated.
Take Care,
Bebba
I too got a tiny bit of a tan about a month before my third treatment. Luckily mine faded before I was scheduled. As you did I applied suntan lotion frequenlty. Maybe talk to your technician and see if you should wait a few more days Good Luck and I am interested to see how your third treatment goes.
Hi all,
Me again just filling you in on my 2nd diode laser treatment. It felt 10 times better than last time. The nurse only had to stop once before she did my upper lip so I could prepare, and that wasn’t even that bad. I left the ela-max on for about an hour with the seran wrap and I took it all off when the nurse got there. I know that that is what made the difference. On my first treatment I had taken the cream off about 15 minutes before my treatment began. NEVER AGAIN!!
I did have one problem though. The original nurse that gave me my consoltation and 1st treatment wasn’t there. I have my mother come with me to the treatments for support (and the carpool lane on the way home) and my original nurse, Ruby, lets her stay in the room. This new nurse told my mom to go in the waiting room and she wasn’t very kind about it. It also seemed as if she hurried through the procedure. I’m not so worried because I have 3 more treatments left and I get free touch ups about 3 weeks after each treatment. I’m going to call tomorrow to request Ruby for my next appointment. It also looks like the new nurse missed a couple spots so I’m gonna tell them about that too.
When I originally went to my consoltation I let my brother know what I was doing. I convinced him to do his stomach and chest. He had his first treatment about a week after mine and he said the nurse did great. The nurse he had was the nurse I had today. I told him to let her do this next treatment but to request Ruby for his next appointment. It’s been about 5 weeks since his first treatment and he has some real bad scarring on his stomach. I don’t think this new nurse is very good. (I don’t mean “new” as in she just started working there, just as not my old nurse)
Well, I’ll keep you filled in on this whole project of mine. Oh, I saw about a 65% reduction of my hair after the first treatment. I also think that’s why this 2nd treatment wasn’t nearly as painful as the first. Hopefully all the missed spots won’t look too bad.
Hello everyone:
update: I had my third lightsheer diode treatment today. It still hurt, but atleast I know what to expect. She says that she has raised the settings abit. My face was red and swollen for about 1 and a half hours and then felt fine. Even now, 5 hours later and the only noticeable difference is that my upper lip is slightly swollen but still feels fine. Hopefully that will be gone in the morning. I am soooo happy with the results so far. The lady who treats me, thinks the treatments are going great and so do I. I have decided to get my cheeks and side burns (presently I bleach the hair and pluck a few stray black ones in those areas) starting in the winter.
Looking forward to hearing everyone elses updates.
hi all of you i just had my second treatment on my chin after it all my coarse hair has just gone and fallen out my chin is so smooth and lovely i have got my self confidence back but only the white hairs are still there i wonder what to do with them …after 2 treatments all hairs have gone …i wonder should i go for the third …the best thing i did was not use a razor in between treatments for which i believe would have promoted new hair growth and discolor the chin…best luck to all of you still undergoing treatment
This thread helped me make my decision to get my chin hair lasered off. It was pretty coarse - I had to pluck or thread every day - and ugh, in preparation for my first treatment had to shave. Not doing anything was not an option.
I had my first treatment three weeks ago with the CoolGlide Nd Yag. The first week was hard because it seemed as though the hair would never shed. Week two had a lot of shedding and week three looks good. I went for a touch-up for a missed spot and ended up with the doctor painstakingly going over the entire chin again.
There was some redness and puffiness for 2-3 hours the first time; yesterday there was minimal puffiness.
I haven’t had to worry about my chin in two weeks. I know the hair will return but this freedom is great.
I would love to read updates from all of you - it gives me a better sense of what to expect going forward. Please do update when you get a chance. And thanks for having shared your experiences so far.
You may have a hormonal imbalance. Check w/ your endocrinologist or gyn. You can prevent the hair from growing more, you can save yourself severe health complications and you may be saving your life. Unless your hormones are taken care of, more and more hair will grow w/ time. So there’s no point in delaying that doc visit.
Also, laser by law cannot be called ‘permanent hair removal’. It means that sooner or later your hair will come back. In addition, new studies show that laser can make more hair grow in areas in which it never did before. So there’s no permanent hope in laser.
Electrolysis is the only permamnent removal method available today. If you can pluck all your hair in an hour, you can be cleared with electrolysis in about the same time, and then just maintain that clear state untill no more hair will grow.
On finding a good tech see www.hairfacts.com and electrolysis forum.
“yb” is way off base with her comments! Laser not being called “permanent hair removal” by the FDA does not imply that all hairs will grow back. This leap of logic is truly ignorant to what the FDA actually says about lasers that are approved for “permanent hair reduction”. Here is a direct quote from the FDA’s website regarding hair removal: “Several manufacturers received FDA permission to claim, “permanent reduction,” NOT “permanent removal” for their lasers. This means that although laser treatments with these devices will permanently reduce the total number of body hairs, they will not result in a permanent removal of all hair. The specific claim granted is “intended to effect stable, long-term, or permanent reduction” through selective targeting of melanin in hair follicles. Permanent hair reduction is defined as the long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs re-growing after a treatment regime, which may include several sessions. The number of hairs regrowing must be stable over time greater than the duration of the complete growth cycle of hair follicles, which varies from four to twelve months according to body location. Permanent hair reduction does not necessarily imply the elimination of all hairs in the treatment area.” Is that clear enough for you? As to your continuous mention of a study that links laser to triggering hair growth, I can assure you that if you look hard enough you can find a study that supports any theory you might imagine about almost anything. There are studies that the computer you are looking at causes eye damage and cancer. So what?
