I think the Harmony you refer to is the old one, the new XL one that works like the Soprano is not powerful enough to give good results.
Been 4 days now, took tweezers to some hairs on my upper thighs to test it out. There’s def some resistance but the hairs are sliding out so so far so good
Been about two weeks now since my treatment! Underarm hairs are literally falling out, though they seem to have stopped now. I’d say I’ve lost around 60/70% of them, but the rest havnt budged at all…should I give it a few more days or could this be the optimum amount im going to lose?
Give it full 3 weeks. If there is still more than 10% left, ask for a touchup.
Sorry, probably should have clarified, im talking about the test patch the lady did for me with the Soprano XL. She did the whole armpit, but im assuming because it was a test patch she wasnt very thorough with it!
Anyway, Im going for a different test patch with a sk:n clinic in my area, so hopefully I can get them to do the other armpit and we can compare! This place uses Gentlelase - so I will have a Gentlelase armpit and a Soprano armpit
Just as a side note, the lady from the sk:n clinic was very very helpful, really thorough, knew which laser they used and explained it all, even or the phone. So, so far im happy.
A quick question though. She said they had a ND YAG laser (I think this it what its called?) and that they use this for darker skin types (I am pale with dark hair). Is this normal practise, and is it genereally considered that the gentlelase is better for paler skin than this?
GentleLASE or Soprano are better for pale skin. ND:Yag is the only option for dark skinned people. It works on light too but only on very dark coarse hair.
In my opinion test patch is just to test if it’s even possible to treat an area without causing damage, it’s not so you could get some done in 1 place and then the rest in another place. For that reason i think most places will also use lower settings, just to avoid risk.
Besides, the way the Soprano works, it needs certain size of area otherwise it can’t even treat without burning.
I don’t think you will have that option with the Gentlelase because they will only do a few spots and not the whole armpit.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking too, a test spot is usually literally one shot of the laser just to make sure that it doesn’t burn and to see how you handle it. Like Odi said a test patch isn’t to treat a whole area for free. Like he said as well with Soprano it has to be in motion so you can’t really just do one shot for a test patch, you’d have to do a bit larger area which is probably why it seemed like your whole underarm was being treated. A test patch should really only do something like 1 by 1 inch.
Yeah, thats what I thought. I only expect to have a little area done with the gentleLASE, especially as sk:n is a chain and i expect they will do as little as possible. Just a heads up to people in the UK though, they are doing an offer at the moment of £25 off a treatment worth over £55 which is good, saves a few pennies!
I would say though, she has done my full underarm - I was going for a full six treatment block ,and she told me the test patch would count as one treatment for on underarm. Which, when I think about it, is kind of rubbish considering how many hairs are left.
I remember at my second clinic with GentleLASE I asked for a test spot on my neck to see the reaction if I removed my beard. She used the 15mm spot size and fired it once on the underside of my chin, that’s it! I remember the area went dark brown for awhile so I was worried then it went away after awhile. I took the chance and did my whole face with no reaction like that. So if anything that tiny test patch would have stopped me from doing it but it’s still kind of silly a spot the size of a dime lol.
Make sure to ask them what settings they used on GentleLASE. Ask for spot size and joules.
Just an update on my progress, day 12 (day 13 tomorrow morning) since my Soprano XL treatment. My underarms I’d say are 95-98% hair free, all the hair started falling out like mad 2 days ago. My legs are different, I STILL have terrible razor burn on my thighs, much better now than it was. I think mostly it’s because I’m not shaving my legs I’d rather let the hair keep growing then fall out, so the stubble rubs on my jeans all day at work and so on. Been putting polysporin on them at night which has helped a lot. Anyway, as for the laser treatment I’m not sure yet, I’d say I’ve had maybe 5% shedding. The odd hair will slide out if I pull on it but then the one right beside it won’t budge at all. Just used a sugar scrub on my legs no hair fell out with that, but I’ll give it more time, I know my forearms start shedding good around this time. A lot of hairs do come out when I pull on them they’re just not loose enough to fall out from using a scrub or loofa. Will keep posting Since I’ve never done legs, are they any different in terms of shedding or time it takes to shed? I know they have a longer growth cycle.
Hi edokid, how did Soprano XL work for you? Did the legs shed eventually and if so what %?
