Yes. Stop pulling with the tweezers. They will release in due time. It’s not instant.
You need to wait 3-3.5 weeks. As I mentioned right above your post, many hairs don’t start falling out until week 2. Please keep patient and don’t touch them.
Thanks for your advises. I will just be patient and wait for the hair to shed.
Another question: when I told my family doctor yesterday I was going for laser hair removal she gave me a prescription for Tylenol 3 for the pain. She told me if I use it, my husband have to drive me home after the laser session. Is anyone tried this medication before?
Haven’t used it, but also don’t think you need any strong medication for these treatments. Most people don’t use anything. Just ask them to ice the area after if you want. And you can just take an Ibuprofen. If it really hurts and you can’t handle it (doesn’t sound like it), then you can just a numbing cream, which would be more effective.
Thanks for the advise. I have another question,
I am still unsure about my skin type. Most of the place I have been told me I am a type III but except one place told me I was a type 4. I have white skin do get burn sometimes and tan after a couple days but if I have been exposed to the sun a long period of time I can get really tan. What do you think, am I really a type 3 or 4 ? I am french canadian descent but surely I have mediterraneen or native background.
I was thinking to use an alexandrite laser if the Yag laser doesn’t seem to work.
Is 6-16 weeks general growback time for plucked hairs AND hairs treated by electrolysis or do the hairs usually take longer to come back when treated by electrolysis? (again, I’m referring to those hairs that aren’t killed on the first hit, obviously)
Is it possible for a thick hair to grow back in LESS than 6 weeks if plucked? I swear some of the dark hairs on my chin seem to come back exactly in the same place within a week or two. I realize these could be new hairs in the exact same place but I wonder how many dark, thick hairs could possibly be cycling through and popping up in the exact same places!!
Muci, skin types are not precise - they’re approximate. For someone in your situation who can be between 3 and 4, you should try an alexandrite laser and see if they can use high enough settings without burning your skin. if your skin can handle it (you have to keep it as pale as possible for treatments), then that would be the best laser. however, if your skin burns or gets pigmentation at high enough settings to kill the hair, you will need to switch to a Yag. This is explained in the FAQs in the link below.
Alli, how long the hair cycle is depends on the area. Face has shorter cycles and legs have longer cycles for example. And yes, many hairs are growing in the same exact place. No way to tell if they’re the same or different hairs. Also, there is a chance of the hair breaking off half way when it’s plucked. In that case, you will see it appear earlier since it was never fully removed. Also, when you pluck a hair, there is no way for you to know whether it was about to shed or it just developed and wouldn’t have shed for another 6 weeks.
Thanks for your answer.
I don’t know why but today I am feel so down about this laser hair removal. I feel I have been cheated in some way.
Before I chose this clinic, I visited 4 places and did some pacth tests. One of the place looked fine it was a Doctor’s owned Aesthetic Clinic (not a chain) and they had reasonable prices and the Certified laser technician seemed really interested in helping me in my project of reducing my hair. The machine, a Cutera Coolglide Xeo seemed fine as well since my hair is coarse on my legs and I am between a type III & IV. Also, she performed a patch test in large triangle and I could see even now after 4 weeks that I am hair free in the rectangle of my lower leg. But when I went for the treatment it wasn’t done in rectangles and the laser was going all over my legs. She assured me she could see where she lasered, where she didn’t lasered and that she will cover all the hair.
Anyway, I paid for one session and told her if I was satistfied I will come back and buy a package since it’s more economical.
Now the hair shed very little I said previously 50% but it’s actually less than 25%. I had my session 1.5 weeks ago and the remaining hair that was missed is more than 75% and you can clearly see the test spot triangle and 2 other test spots from other clinics.
The remaining hair is grown, strong and healthy.
I feel I am a good candidate since I was checked by my family Dr. who performed all the possible tests to check for any underlying condition that would promote the hair growth and nothing unusual was fine. Also the test spots are working…I am the perfect candidate: white skin and dark coarse hair.
The only thing I found strange about my laser technician is that after my leg treatment who lasted 1.5 hours, she told me to come back in 4 weeks. But in all the litterature I read it’s minimum 8 weeks spacing between session (for the lower body).
She said only for the first 3 treatments she recommends 4 weeks or 6 weeks interval between sessions.
I decided that next week I will book an appointment to show her my legs.I hope she will realized by herself that something is wrong. If she has some ethics she will relaser my leg because the amount of hair I have it won’t be touch-ups. If she respond in a strange way like in 4 weeks I will have to buy another session and this how it’s working, I will then ask to speak to the Dr.(the clinic’s owner)
Here what do you think are my options? What is the best approach or fact(s) you recommend me to use (if I have to go that far)? This 4 weeks interval and this hair not shedding are telling me that she might have rushed the job. You don’t need to be a certified laserhair or a Dr to know something is wrong when you look at my legs it’s like nothing occured.
Thanks for your responses.
Did you sign a contract and pay up front, or are you paying as you go?
I paid for one session. I decided to try one session and if goes well I will take a package.
You have to wait a full 3-4 weeks before judging shedding. 1.5 weeks is not enough. For most people, shedding only starts at 1.5-2 weeks. Give it 2 more weeks first. If by then you still have a lot of missed areas, you should ask them for a free touchup. They could have used low settings to start to make sure they don’t burn you. So, they may up them for the touchup. Talk to your clinic!
Thanks Lagirl for your answer.
Do you know any good medical article that explain the shedding process, the hair growth cycle and how the lasered area should look like after being lasered?
You can find this information online (Google) or in our FAQs. The area should look like there is no hair after shedding, or the hair can be in the follicles but not growing as usual for some hairs and areas.
I showed to the Dr. my legs and he said the treatment will be redone at no cost. What setting is efficient for at Type 3 skin with Cutera Coolglide Xeo, is it 0/15/50?
We can’t really recommend settings over the internet. The doctor should be able to judge this best as he saw you in person and he knows what settings he used last time. Generally, around 50 joules should be good, and lower pulse is more effective.
Thanks Lagirl for your advice. Without your knowledge I wouldn’t be able to go back to the clinic and speak to the Dr.
Since my initial treatment was not done they will repeat the treatment and this time I want to go there prepared. The Dr. just saw the legs and said he will have someone re-do the treatment. He never did the treatment himself and yesterday was the first time we met. We didn’t speak about setting.
The previous laser hair technician who did my treatment got fired week ago. I know you don’t really give setting in the internet but I just need to have a range so I am aware of the process in general.
You told me the pulse of 15 is too low so what is the range you would recommend? Also I saw a Coolglide setting post where a lady was type IV and you recommended 50 joules and below, if I am a true type III should I go much below than 50 joules?
Thanks you again for your help.
Muci
pulse ranges between 5ms and 100ms or so for hair removal purposes on Coolglide. around 50 joules should be good and the lower the pulse, the better, without burning you of course.
