My LHR Diary (22/F/Black)

Well, this update comes really really late but I’ve been pleased with my laser treatments that I don’t even really think about them so much.

I actually waited until November the 22nd to get my 4th treatment since the hairs were so sparse and fine. I’m also going to push the next treatment to February (normally you do it every 2 months/8 weeks, but I’m extending it to 12… to the very last day of the hair growth cycle). BEST MONEY I HAVE EVER SPENT ON MYSELF. EVER.

I wanted to do the areolas, but I’m going to hold off on that until I have enough money saved. I think I’ll pay for 2 treatments with the areolas to get the hair finer and then finish it off electrolysis. I might do the underarms, but they are not to big of a priority (I only have to shave every 2 weeks since they grown in slowly).

Again, my main problem now is the SKIN! I have so many dark marks from ingrowns and shiny scars that I kinda wish I had some hair to cover them. Yeesh. I’ve been using lactic acid and glycolic acid peels to try to lighten them up. I got actually in the lowest strength possible… That might have been a mistake since I don’t think there have been any dramatic differences, but I’ve only do them once a week (2x - 3x if I get time).

I haven’t been using skin whitening creams since it gets kinda messy on the clothes. We shall see! I’ll be experimenting to get everything even toned so if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Glad your treatments are going well. You really don’t need to come in until you have enough and coarse hair to treat. Don’t worry about timing so much. There is no set standard. It depends on you only.

Most people find that their skin gets better on its own after they leave it alone for a while.

My skin has been pretty much been on its own for a good six - eight months (while I’ve been complaining since the start, I’ve only put in serious effort in November/December) and still, not really much progress. Much of the scarring is hypertrophic which I think might be permanent, but I’m hoping that I can lessen the appearance, ESPECIALLY the dark marks. Hyperpigmentation can go away on its own, but that can take years especially for African-Americans. I still have a scar from nearly 3 years ago that’s significantly dark.

Since it’s on my stomach and bikini line, I’m really going to put in the effort to make it as clear as possible by the summer. I’m so ready to not feel self-conscious when I wear a bathing suit.

While I have to update my signature, I do want to say that I got laser treatment for my areolas (finally!) on Monday and I’m currently waiting on the shedding period. I tried out a new place and was pleased with the technician and the price. It was an nd:Yag laser, btw (for those who saw my gentlelase post), and it had a blast of cool air mechanism that made it quite nice.

I think I’ll do a treatment package for the areolas if this treatment works pretty well. Not too sure about the armpits since the hair in that area doesn’t really grow quickly.

It would be great if you could add your location to your profile so others in your city could contact you for clinic recommendations.
