My Laser Journey - Starting 2010

The inner leg area in the first part of that photo is more like your “bikini line” than your thigh. This area IS expected to have hair (pubic hair extending a couple inches down past the panty line), and should respond very well to laser.

Yea, when you go a it more down there are a couple of hairs, but where I have highlighted, there uis less than upper arm hair.

In every place you will see reduction, but bare in mind that the less coarse and dense it is the less reduction you will see compared to other areas. Doesn’t mean you won’t see any results, just that it will cost you in more treatments and less success rate.

I’ve never heard of induced growth on thighs, inner or outer. However, it’s pointless to treat hair that’s not coarse.

Either way, these settings are too low, even for your skin type. Just because it hurts doesn’t mean they’re strong enough to disable the hair permanently. Even if there is shedding, it doesn’t mean that the hair is disabled permanently. That’s why we recommend treating at highest settings your skin can handle.

Yes, you should count on at least 5-6 treatments spaced 8-12 weeks apart.

If I were you, I would either ask them to test higher settings or look for another clinic. A Yag laser would be fine for you too.

Thank you for your replies.

Just to get things clear, what places are at risk of induced hair growth on a female?

LAgirl: I don’t think my technician thinks I know what I am talking about. What can I say to her to convince her? I’m sure by me asking her to write down settings is a small indication that I have researched on this, but she seems to want to question every time why I want them and then use the opportunity to sell their products to me, which I don’t want. I even told her when I went for a test patch that I have researched, and she did remember me. But they don’t want clients poking their nose into their settings. Well maybe not me anyway, because she probably thinks I am too young to have read up on this on a forum like this.

I did ask to test higher settings for leg and arm because I have an appointment for that next week too, but she said no because I have already had a test patch for all areas. I asked because I wanted to take higher settings if my skin could bare it as soon as I go in next week. But instead what she said is that when I go for my first actual leg or arm appointment, then whilst they do that they test out higher settings for the following appointment. Well I would have thought it would make more sense to do it when I went in yesterday because that means one appointment could have been used better.

Anyway, it doesn’t seem like she will change the settings or the laser because of the “leave it to us policy” where they feel the consumer can’t research for themselves.

I don’t understand why the world thinks I’m a kid. :s I honestly feel like flying out to odi for laser and to James/Dee for electrolysis because the UK is frustrating in laser/electrolysis business. At least electrolysis is okay, but these laser people just don’t seem like they want to listen.

My hairdresser is always trying to sell me products. I just say “mmhmm, no thanks”.

Can you add your location to your profile? It seems that there are a number of decent clinics in London that people on this forum are using. Do you have other clinic options? It shouldn’t be this difficult to get the service you want for the money you’re paying.

On female i think the only problem is the face, for induced hair.

Hey odi,

I thought as well as the face it was other “male pattern areas” - shoulders, upper arm, chest.

That’s what I remember reading on here too - about the upper arms.

Added.

I didn’t realise others were in London too. Stoppit is the one who recommended me Renew Medica, which is fine for her visits but it’s the opposite for me. If there were other places where people have got good results, I’d go.

How do you guys cope with the pain? She reduced the number to 12 lower down when she was doing the bikini thong and it hurt like crazy. I don’t think I would cope with higher settings. I did have a tablet before I went, but it was still painful. I assume legs and arms don’t hurt as much as that area.

Your treatments are so cheap! You’d get only one appointment down here at the price of 4 at your clinic. Wow

How to cope with the pain?

You can try a topical anesthetic for areas that really hurt (I just use it on my bikini line).
Your other option is to shout obscenities and twitch like a crazy person.

Sometimes I feel ambitious and do both!

People already expressed doubts about the Lightsheer for you, yet you didn’t go for any more consultations before starting treatment here. Why?

Everyone I know that is being treated with the YAG (Apogee Elite) there is getting on well and no problems with settings - I know what they’re using coz they report back.

I don’t remember hearing about those places with induced hair. That said, 99% of the time women don’t have enough hair there to be seen by other people…

I think I will use that in future for bikini line. How much does it reduce the pain by?

How can I go for ore consultations when they don’t allow it? I called the up and everything, and every time they say “leave it to us”, “leave the settings to us” so I thought I would give it a try. I don’t understand what you are trying to say.

General question: apart from the reason that one laser e.g. the lightsheer is used for lighter skin, what’s the difference between these lasers? Does the Yag hurt less with higher settings?

I want to get everything correct before my next two appointments next week for my arms and legs. She doesn’t see to trust me in settings, so should I ask them to swith machines? What if they say no to me?

With different clinics!
If this clinic wasn’t willing to try out the YAG and you definitely wanted to have a test patch with it, there are plenty of London clinics with YAG machines which you could have gone to for just a consultation.

The YAG will most likely hurt the same if right/maximum required settings are used, depending on the coarseness and density of hair.

Okay so does anyone have a list of good clinics in London?

I recommended one that someone I know has had treatment at. It’s also the one Sharon recommended me when I first started seeing her as some of her clients have had treatment there (maybe you should ask her about it) -

HairTell isn’t comprehensive. Sometimes you need to do your own research.

I had no leads on renew medica or parkside, finding them was the result of research and going for consultations.

Pain shouldn’t deter you from good treatments. If you want the hair gone badly, you should be willing to handle some. That said, there are numbing creams available. Also, icing the area before and after helps.
