My Laser Journey - Starting 2010

Okay, stoppit already answered the above question but there’s no edit function so I can’t undo it.

Anyway, if I plucked or waxed hairs today, which is an area I wanted lasered, how long should I wait till I book an appointment?

Thanks.

Until enough hair grows back to justify paying the money to kill it. You’ll only kill what you (and the laser) can see so if what you see is worth killing for that price, then go for it. If not, then wait until more grows in. The minimum recommended wait tends to be 6 weeks. Personally I’d wait a little more because of the way my hair grows.

You need to wait for the hair to grow back, which is around 8 weeks after waxing. You can’t wax or pluck after you start treatments. Shaving only.

I have a really bad habit of plucking some hairs, so I need to stop or I’ll be delaying this whole laser treatment process but it’s only in some areas, I don’t touch my legs.

You absolutely cannot pluck any hair that you’re getting treated with laser or electrolysis. You would be doing yourself a disservice, i.e. paying to have a lot more treatments than necessary because of it.

Once I start treatment I won’t, I just have to conrol myself from now until then as well.

Start shaving now, so you get used to it. Shaving is much better for the hair. It doesn’t do anything to its structure. Plucking makes it stronger.

What shavers are best to use? I was using my epilator’s shaving attachment but it seems more like trimming but a little shorter. Not ideal.

I like Gilette for women, used in conjunction with Gilette’s shaving gel (NOT cream).

I’ll search that, thaks LAgirl.

I want to ask regarding my test patches.

It has been 4 weeks and 2 days since I got it done and I can tell you, I can really see a difference in my underarm test patch but I am not so sure about my leg and arm.

First of all I thought my arm hair was shedding but now I’m thinking maybe I was just ‘thinking’ that. if I look at it now, there are a lot of thin haird and a couple of pepper-spot looking things. With my leg test oatch, I don’t know what’s happening. I’m wondering: isit growing slower, or has it actually lost the hair? Because the area looks empty with no hairs popping out at all but it looks dotty, like large pores. If I post a pic it may not give the real idea.

Should I post pictures so someone can assess it?

I have no idea how to interpret this hair.

It sounds like pepperspots, which is normal. The only thing you should be worried about is whether the hair is growing like nothing ever happened, as it normally would if you hadn’t done anything.

Also, at this point, you’re likely to start seeing NEW hair coming in where a touchup wasn’t done since it would have been about 7 weeks since your original treatment.

They are not all pepperspots - only a couple look like that while the rest looks like my normal hair is geowing back from the shave, as if nothing happened, but I have no idea.

See my second line. You only touched up some areas, right? The other areas have been hairless for a while probably since the original treatment, so you should expect new hair to come in now.

I went for a test patch only - a square area just above my ankle.

The rest of my legs have been shaved but they have grown back.

The test patch area however, has not grown. If I look, yes there may be tiny tiny tiny hairs coming out the sockets but only on a few.

Sorry, I didn’t realize it was just a test patch.

You’re more than 4 weeks after the test spot and the hair was not synchronized when you had your test done. You are probably fine. If the settings were high, I wouldn’t worry about. It’s normal for new hair to start slowly coming in too, though they won’t be in full swing until 7-8 weeks after or so.

Okay so do you think in a few weeks time I should get 3/4 arms done? It will probably give me a better understanding right?

Yes. Of course, as we always advise, only treat the coarse dense hair. Leave the rest for electrolysis.

I’m not sure about my arm hairs totally but will it be silly if I get my 3/4 arms done but it doesn’t make much of a difference? Will it change my hair? Or make my arms look patchy or something - in other words should I take the risk?

I wouldn’t want to waste my money if I’m pretty sure the hair is not coarse enough. I’d rather use that money towards electrolysis.

Yes, it can make it patchy if overlapping is not done properly. It can also induce hair if the hair is not dense.
