If you have a condition that’s not being controlled, yes, your body will stimulate more hair later. However, this is a slow and gradual process. So you can still start now and finish even, and then just come in for a touchup once or twice a year. It’s not like you’re going to see all hair suddenly return a month after you’re done. The follicles that were treated were disabled. So new hair can only develop from the follicles that become active with time. This is not an immediate process.
Hi, I wanted to update the latest on my treatments.
I have 2 more treatments left in my package of 5 stomach/buttocks that I purchased. After those 2 treatments are used, I plan to do electrolysis on my stomach. Buttocks is not feasible, obviously.
So, I needed one more treatment on my upper legs. My laser place quoted me $269 to do my thighs. I decided to call around just out of curiosity, and found a nearby laser place who was willing to quote me an hourly rate of $300, to get done as much as possible within the hour. The technician assured me she could get my upper legs, bikini, and buttocks done during that time. For only $31 more than my regular laser place, I decided to go ahead and do another pass on my buttocks with a new laser and see if perhaps I see some better results. The laser was a Cutera, that’s all I remember, it might be listed on their website if I go back and check.
Anyway just as she said, she was able to get all 3 areas done in exactly an hour. Pricewise it saved me hundreds of dollars to get the hourly rate.
This is the first time I have ever gone to another laser place besides the one I’ve been going to for 6 years. And there was a quite a difference.
My regular laser place uses a laser that does not touch my skin. They hover the wand above my skin and the wand shoots out the laser pulses that attacks the hair. The wand never physically touches me.
The new place the technician smeared ultrasound gel all over my legs, butt, bikini (which I don’t care for) and pressed the wand Really Hard on my skin while she was doing my laser. Was not expecting that.
Second, my regular laser place calls themselves a “Laser Spa” and that is what they are… you walk in to a spa-like environment with up to date decor, waterfalls, pendant lighting etc. Definitey more modern.
The new place I went to today was in an old office building. They shared the office with a chiropractor, acupunturist, and nutritionist. Not the type of environment I was expecting coming from my regular laser spa.
Third I felt kind of out of place, as the technician was Middle-Eastern, the employees were middle-eastern, and the client leaving before me was middle-eastern. It just made me feel out of place and question whether or not I was their regular clientele.
Anyway the technician seemed very qualified with lots of certificates on the wall in laser, dermatology, and nursing. She was very nice and professional during my treatment.
What I didn’t like was the hard-sell to refer them more business. She asked if she could ask me a favor… to pass out flyers on their Valentine’s Day specials for tomorrow. She handed me a small stack of business cards and asked me to hand them out and said I would get $25 off any future treatment for every referral I sent in. My regular laser place has never asked me to help them get more business. Then she tried to sell me some exfoliating cream after my treatment that she said would help the hair shed better… she said if I didn’t buy it, the hair might not shed. Well I know that’s not true. I didn’t buy it.
Anyway… I’m not sure that the new laser was any better… I do have some red spots and pepper spots on the inner part of my buttocks that I don’t think I’ve had from my regular laser place, so at least that’s good. I think that proves my current place isn’t using high enough settings. She said she had the settings at “64 joules”. I was unaware lasers went that high.
So after this experience, I will be staying with my regular laser spa. I just like the environment better than the old, outdated office building I went to today.
Finally, this is the last bit of money I will be spending on laser for a long time. Can’t afford it anymore. After I use the remaining 2 treatments in my package at my regular laser spa, that will be it for me for awhile.
Just checked their website, the laser used on me today appears to an Altus Coolglide.
It’s a Yag laser. It’s meant for darker skin. That’s why your settings were high. They could be on this machine which is meant for darker skin and is not as effective as alexandrites machines which are more powerful (because they’re not made to cater to skin that burns easily). I doubt you’ll get much result with it on finer hair especially. On very coarse hair, you would.
LA Girl,
That might explain why I finally had pepperspots on the inner part of my buttocks, that I haven’t had before from my regular laser place…
Hi,
I’m back to provide an update to my female stomach/buttocks lasering. I had seen no improvement and no amount of shedding on the outer part of my buttocks (basically my butt cheeks).
I had purchased a package of 5 treatments for each area. The stomach area is doing pretty well. I went for my 5th and last package treatment a week ago Friday. I told my regular technician that this was it for me, since I hadn’t seen any shedding on my backside in 4 treatments, that I was basically back one more time because I had prepaid for 5 pkg treatments, but it was going to be the last one for me.
My technician, who I trust and really like, told me that this area (the butt) usually takes more than 5 treatments, and if I wanted, she would look into getting me a discount for future treatments in that area at the end of our session. So I said okay to be polite.
This final time she said she used the highest settings possible. It hurt worse than before (it actually didn’t hurt at all before unless she was inside my butt crack).
Anyway at the end of my session she calculated what the package price was per treatment for my buttocks ($100), and said she could give me that same discounted rate for future treatments on a pay-as-I-go basis, without having to purchase a new package. Plus if I book on Mon, Tue, or Wed apparently the spa offers a 30% discount so she said I would only have to pay $66.25 for future treatments, so I said ok and scheduled my next session.
Anyway the GOOD NEWS - what do you know, I FINALLY had red spots all over my butt when I got home, and I now have pepperspots on my butt cheeks! Something I have never seen before in that area! Finally, this is going to work!! I can’t believe it and proof that the first 4 treatments did nothing. I am excited that maybe finally I will have a hair free bum soon
I can’t wait to go back and tell my tech that I finally got shedding from her last treatment, and to continue using those settings. Just wanted to share
Just keep in mind that even shedding doesn’t necessarily mean that the hair was killed for good. It means something was affected, but there needs to be enough heat to disable the hair permanently. Given your hair type, I don’t know that you’ll ever achieve that.
Also, I would ask for and write down the new settings.
LA Girl, I thought shedding meant the hair was disabled / killed?
I feel like the hair on my backside is the same hair pattern that was on the backs my thighs, and have been surprised this whole time that I haven’t seen any results when I have on my thighs. Even my technician said the hair on my cheeks was “coarse”. I just think that she’s been using the wrong settings for the first 4 treatments. She has said she’s been worried about burning in the natal cleft (crack) area so she’s kept it low, this time she did two settings… one for the inner part, and another for my outer cheeks… which I’ve wanted her to do all along and she never did~!, until now!
Was it just laziness on her part? Did it take me finally saying “This is it for me because I haven’t seen any results” for her to step it up and think to do 2 settings for the 2 different hair types on my backside?
Anyway I’m going to keep my fingers crossed as this is the first progress I’ve seen thus far in lasering that area. I have never seen red dots and then pepperspots / dead hairs on my butt until now, so at least that’s something!
I’ll keep this thread updated!

No, shedding doesn’t mean that the hair was disabled permanently. It means that it was affected enough to shed, but it doesn’t mean that there was enough heat for permanent damage to the follicle. That’s why we recommend using the highest settings your skin can handle safely and not just the lowest setting that makes the hair shed.

Sounds like they did what many clinics prefer to do. They would rather keep the settings low to avoid the risk of burning you and have you be upset because of it or even file a lawsuit. Figuring out the max setting your skin can handle safely requires more skill and some risk.
