Male face, neck and chest hair removal - London

Hi lil.D - I didn’t go to a barber before the treatment - I just shaved my full beard as normal. I used the natural line where the skin under my mouth curves downwards onto my neck - if that makes sense. My overall goal is to have my full beard treated - but right now I am getting my chest done and can’t afford the full beard with it. But I can afford the neck, so I’ve stared with that for now. There is definitely an obvious line where the hair has been removed on my neck (less obvious as regrowth happens) but I shave everyday for my job anyway, so the line isn’t really that noticeable. And ultimately once I have my full beard treated, there will be a reduction all over, so there won’t be any obvious ‘lines’ anywhere.

As for your own situation - if your intention is just to treat your neck, I would suggest that after the laser treatments you might consider electrolysis around the ‘line’ area to blend it in with your beard. It’s just a suggestion so that it will look natural for you. If you have any more questions, just ask.

Thanks Jason. I will keep following your thread.

Just to update, I had the second treatment on my upper chest one week ago. There was a gap of seven weeks between the 1st and 2nd treatments.

I was sure the tech did the first treatment at 18J on 18mm, but she stated it was actually at 14J on 18mm. And the second session was 16J on 18mm. Not sure what to think - in terms or pain there was no difference to me between the first and second treatment, so I couldn’t tell what J it was at. But I did notice that after the first treatment I got those dark ‘spots’ over my chest, that didn’t really happen with the second treatment. I caught a glance at what she was writing on her documentation and it looked like 18J, but it could have been my imagination. Anyway, almost a week later and the shedding has begun - shedding faster this time than with the first treatment.

Jason- where did you have these appointments?

I have not included the names of the clinics for two main reasons -

  1. I am very easily offput by these places (sometimes unjustifiably so) and I don’t want to give the impression to other potential customers that Place X is bad based on a fifteen minute appointment I’ve had where I didn’t like something the technician said, for example. If I’ve had a very bad experience, or I get the impression that the clinic is a complete rip-off or the tech doesn’t know jackshit, I would share the name to protect other potential customers.

  2. I don’t want to rave about a place being great only to find that the end results are poor. Right now I’m having good success, but it’s still very early in my treatments.

Jason would you mind sending me a pm of the hospital and dr you saw for your fourth appointment would be hugely appreciated

Adam - I’ve sent you a PM.

I went for the first treatment on my face today. 22J on 15mm. Very painful but redness isn’t bad at all, which is surprising given that my neck is normally very red afterwards. This makes me wonder if the treatment will be effective or not… but my skin feels very tender, despite not really being red. We’ll find out in three weeks…

On Wednesday I had the third session on my chest, this time 18J 18mm. Definitely the most painful chest treatment yet, but seeing good results there so far. At one point I felt like the tech was missing spots just based on watching her hands move, so we’ll see what happens once the shedding begins.

As for my face, it’s been a month since the treatment and I would say shedding was around 30% mainly from underneath my jawline and underneath my chin. There was no shedding on my upper lip or chin, and limited shedding on the sides of my face. I also know for a fact she missed spots, because where there was some good shedding under my chin and jawline, there are obvious spot ‘circles’ that were missed - it’s really only noticeable if I left my beard grow for longer than a day, but it’s annoying that she missed them.

I think the lack of shedding is down to the settings (22J on 15mm on my face). I will probably give the clinic another try on my face with higher settings, I think they will be reluctant to go higher than 24J, but I will ask them for 26J. Otherwise I will probably check out some other clinics for my face.

But overall, good results so far on my neck and chest.

On Wednesday I had the third session on my neck - 26J on 15mm. Same setting as the last time. I’m okay this this, as all the hair shed the previous time, and has only started to grow back in the past 2 - 3 weeks, which means I had about 9 weeks more or less hair free, which I think is pretty good going for two treatments on an area of such strong growth. I didn’t bother with EMLA this time. It was pretty painful of course, but it was easier to deal with it for a few minutes than go to all the trouble of applying EMLA.

On Friday I had the second session on my face - this time at 24J on 15mm. Since there wasn’t a lot of shedding the previous time at 22J, I’m interested to see how it goes this time. I did use EMLA for this. It was painful but I’m encouraged by the short amount of time it takes to do the treatment - it really is only a few minutes.

An update on my chest - all the hair has more or less shed from my last treatment, all that remains are some very fine hairs that I’m not expecting to be affected by LHR anyway. There are no noticeable missed patches like I was worried about, so it seems the tech picked up pretty much everything.

I’ll update in a couple of weeks for progress on my neck and face.

I know a lot about laser hair removal because of my work with Laser Hair Removal in Phoenix but unfortunately your in London and I’m not sure how much help this will be to you. I do know that with the right people you can receive an effective procedure for your neck/beard areas.
