Harriets New Journey: deep breaths & lots of ?s

I’m trying to figure out what I’m supposed to be looking at in your photos Harriet? I don’t see anything that would particularly alarm me. Looks like good healthy skin, a pimple here and there and some fine hairs. (Common skin on “youngins.”) I read through the thread a bit, and I don’t understand the issue?

As the late “hair bard” used to say, “To squeeze or not to squeeze, that is the question.”

It all depends on what the “little rascal” is (is), (as Bill Clinton would say) … it could be many different things. A lot depends on where the zit is in its goblin-like life-cycle. If the plug of hard sebum has not yet ruptured the follicle wall, I suppose a gentle push-out of the junk would avoid the “next stage of ‘self-infection’?”

Does popping a zit cause a scar? Sometimes it prevents scar formation; but if the (actual) infection is made worse … well, you get the idea. I defer to the “pimple experts” who have years of popping the little goblins. So, there it is, I have nothing to offer and no opinion!

Well, one opinion: if you don’t want your electrologist to squeeze your pimple, tell her not to do it! Seems simple to me. The “mythology of the pimple?” Somebody should write a book about this, (or at least a good paragraph.)

Thanks Michael. Is (is), ha, I love it.

It can be tough to be the client sometimes. I want to make sure I’m well researched and vocally advocating for myself if something is bothering me. And, at the same time, I don’t want to be the whiny diva who doesn’t trust the professional experience on the other side of the probe. I want the most effective treatment, but I also want the professional to want to make time for me (it may be a Cheap Trick, but I want her to want me  )
I want to get as much “right” on my end as I can.

Okay, fair enough. From my prespective everything looks “A-OK!” She’s doing a splendid job and I wouldn’t worry too much about the “goblins.”

I brought this up in another thread (that became a little contentious)

I’ll echo what I’ve said before about people’s natural tendency to be defensive about their area of expertise (and our innate trust in anyone wearing scrubs or a lab coat - see sociological dramaturgy, goffman) and me not wanting to be a pain in the rear to my clinicians (yes, maybe blaming myself first as the non-professional).
It takes courage and understanding on the part of the client and humility and patience on the part of the professional. I was happy when my Pro told me to tell her if I ever felt pulling. However, when I got up the courage to say that in one session I may have felt a few pulls she quickly retorted “no you didn’t, I was just cleaning out gunk in your pores!”

Active listening lesson for all of us in life: acknowledge the person and their right to be concerned, even if you go on to debunk the concern itself. We all seek validation.

But I did feel tugging in my treatment again this week, but after the reaction last time I didn’t say anything because on the whole I’m happy with the progress.

I have another dumb question: how exactly does one determine “first full clearance” for themselves?

I have 2hrs under my belt now in the past 3 weeks, getting into the 'stache pain and the finer stuff in my lady goatee. Is the first full clearance when I feel my face (for the moment) looked as clear as I wanted it to?

Here are photo updates:
After 3rd 30 min treatment side
After 3rd 30 minute treatment chin

Sorry, for reference the originals are on page one of this thread.

/Harriet, thank you for showing us your progress! It looks very good and very little skin reaction.

Well, each one of those little dots in the first picture has turned into a painful whiteheaded cystic like zit. YOWCH and ugly. I’m tempted to give myself a break this week, but I don’t want to halt progress either. I haven’t used any cosmetics since then, only gentle cleanser and witch hazel (occasionally tea tree).

My question remains: how is a “first clearance” determined?

Still have the clearance question

It’s been a while and I’m sure you’re all dying for an update from me (no? oh shoot, well i’m going to provide one anyway).

I’m four hours in, over the course of 2.5 months (sometimes weekly 30 mins, sometimes every other week, that’s all the time she’s offered despite my willingness to sit longer)

I have a decent removal and also some decent hyperpigmentation that I’ll start treating with retinol as soon as I’m “done” getting treated this regularly.

I’m still uncomfortable with sanitation overall. I got up the courage and asked if every person got a new pair of tweezers and she said yes, but this is how the setup looks (see attached) and there are always tweezers lying around everywhere including the floor . I originally thought the tweezers were in the cork tubes for sterilization, but she says that the tubes are for “interesting finds”

Oh well, still have two sessions in my 5 hr package left so I’m going! I don’t even feel close to “cleared” though, I’m okay with a decent amount of peach fuzz left, but I still have a lot of fine dark ones all along my jaw line. A lot of my sessions are spent “zit popping”

so almost 6 hours in, thought I’d share a couple of progress photos. getting into the fuzz is not much fun, but I like seeing the progress. really hoping the scarring goes away, for the moment it’s hard to cover with makeup due to breakouts, but I’m hoping once treatment is done I can treat it over time and cover it as well.

Additionally I found out I have PCOS so I might be zapping my face forever :frowning: argh.

These don’t look thick or dark in color unless the camera isn’t picking them up I don’t think there anything to worry about myself no one would think you had an issue walking down the street. If you have a few long ones then get those zapped for your own peace, but no one else would think you had an issue, you are extremely close to the face with the camera and we do have hairs all over our body which is natural. Its the thick long or dark ones that are possibly caused by PCOS sorry about your diagnosis but hopefully they can help now they know what the cause is. I can see from your first pics that you have some darker hairs but can’t see non in the latest so you seem to be coming along great x

Seems like you’re back in the realm of normal female hair growth on the face. You’ve just got to keep it up and remember once it’s gone… It’s gone. I can most definitely relate to the peach fuzz on the face, the only hair I want to see on my face is a nicely shaped beard done by electrologist, which I paid good money for!

Might as well give a shameless plug to my electrologist, Hartmann. I’ve absolutely put all my trust into her and she’s done an awesome job. Just for reference, i used to have a unibrow so my eyebrows have been cleaned up and ‘mildly’ shaped. Beard hair on the cheeks has been reduced and the beard hair on my neck has been cleaned up. This picture was taken after a loooong work day and a couple of drinks.

Thanks DIY! If my husband ever finally convinces me to move to STL, then I’ll definitely look her up

I have almost no whisker like hairs left. The stuff that I have now is all finer, my upper lip and little soul patch area definitely still have darker fine hairs that weren’t picked up in the photo and I’d still like to get some of the fur off of my jawline near my ears, but overall it’s nice to look at the pics side by side and see progress!

Well, three years later and I’m back at it! Thought it might be fun to update my original thread since I’m probably a “lifer” with my PCOS.

Three years and a baby later, my hormones are always playing tricks on me. Decided to find a new provider and see if the experience was different. She’s kind of a rockstar in the trans community near me. On the plus side, I prefer her office setting (much cleaner & better lighting sources). On the down side she’s not a “two hander” like my original who could tweeze with her non-dominant hand very quickly.

This time I’m getting more of my sideburns done as well as the post-pregnancy abdomen fur. I still have some of the pinpoint pigmentation I got post electrolysis originally, but my other pregnancy melasma makes that less noticeable.
