My name is Patricia Watson and I have gone through approximately 180 hours of electrolysis. I have had very good results and I am very pleased to say that I had no scaring at all. I am transsexual so there was a lot of hair to remove. My entire face had to be done. I am not finished because right now I do not have the money to finish it. I was going to a woman who was also transsexual and that is who she specialized in working with. Unfortunately she passed away leaving the entire transgendered market here in Vancouver without someone who specializes in working with us. That is when I decided to study to do electrolysis and take her place. I graduate November 5th and I am planning on opening my own office by the end of November.
I have seen people say that their electrolysis was painless. Mine was not and personally I can’t see where painless electolysis will work. Even the text books teach us that we are to work as close to the clients pain threshold as possible for the best results. I have had times when I would take three tylenol 3’s and have a couple of beers before and I was still almost in tears.
Anyway those are my expeiences and my thoughts thanks for listening. Patricia.
I had electrolysis done on my chin and upper lip every 2 weeks for 9 months. Each session was about 40 minutes. It was very expensive $300/hour, but I am now hair free in these areas. I haven’t had an appointment in five months and haven’t needed one. The operator insisted it would be permanent. I kept losing faith but a friend went to her before me and she achieved permanence so that’s what kept me going. She too said it all depends on the operator. She is in northern NJ and has been practicing for over 30 years. It is so great to be hair-free on the face at age 50.
Oh,my heavens Carol. Is $300. per hour correct? I have never heard of a fee so high. So happy that you achieved you goal.
I am not an electrologist but I’ve had nearly 3 years on electrolysis work on my chest, face, stomach, and bikini line and am happy with the results. It took much longer than I expected, but I had a great deal of hair to remove! I have had no problems other than temporary redness and swelling directly after treatment.
I agree with the above poster who suggested that many people who are happy with their results are not even looking at sites like these. The main reason I am here is because I’ve started laser treatments on my lower legs and want to hear about other people’s results.
I am a client, not an electrologist. I am here to say, for the record, that electrolysis WORKS. I am living proof and have recommended it to many, many people. I had severe, dark, coarse hair on my face and neck, and after a year and a half of treatments it is gone, gone, gone. My life is so much better! IT WORKS. I SWEAR.
Thanks for your post txhairgirl. Please post your electrologist’s info in the referal section so the next person can find her <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
First of all, this is a GREAT thread, thanks for all the posts!
A very good friend of mine had a pretty bad case of facial hair (just like I do), she received about two years of regular treatments, her first appointments were once a week for an hour as time went by she had to do it less often, and sessions were shorter and shorter. Now, five years after her first session, she visits her electrologist about once every half a year. I say it is a success story!
Can anyone give me the name of good, experienced electrologist in south Louisiana?
Txhairgrl…what part of texas are you from and who performed this? I am in Texas and am searching for a great electrologist. Any information you can provide would be great. Also, thank you very much for posting your results as not many do. Of course, why would they come back to a site for people struggling with hair removal if they are no longer struggling? Makes sense and James has repeated that statement several times. Again, for your contribution once electrology was over, thanks!
Yes, electrolysis works!
I was a regular contributer here a year or so ago when I was getting so down with it. Now, I’m more or less done and happy, so I pop back every time I get a break at work to see if I can poke my nose in! (A lot of regular electrolysis clients become fascinated with the subject, and some even end up becoming practitioners themselves!)
In my experience the main factor is the electrolysist.
I went to a local beauty salon for much of my treatment, so I had maybe 5 or 6 diferent people treat me with the same machine. With some practitioners, my after reaction was just fine - with others it was awful! (The worst practitioners gave me quite a bit of skin damage.)
Skin damage does heal up eventually - not completely, but it does settle down. It did with me, though it took a year or two. I used a very good skin care regime … lots of Vit.C and Vit.E, and plenty of anti-aging moisturiser twice a day.
I hope that helps.
Remember, a good electrolysist will give you good results without damaging your skin. And above all, a good electrolysist will understand how you feel about your hair.
Best wishes, and keep strong!
if pain’s a problem – use the cream offered at the beverly hills compound pharmacy. info on hairfacts.com Combine that with 1 ultram. Works wonders for me. Never a problem.

Tina Marie asked me to post her latest update link here, so here it is.

I used to be do-it-yourselfer then I took the course and became an electrologist myself. Although none of my areas are completely and totally done, I still believe electrolysis is working because I normally go a month between treating any specific area due to there not being enough hair to justify working on that area.
I go once a week for an hour which is all I could afford to do, so the progress was slow…but I’m getting my eyebrows, upper lip, chin (major job), breasts, tummy and full brazilian worked on. It used to take the full hour to work on my face alone, now it takes probably ten minutes and we move south…but I don’t get the face worked on every week now cause there’s not that much hair to work on.
So here’s my schedule:
Week 1: face, breasts, clear up underarms and then tummy
Week 2: finish any tummy that didn’t get done the last week and continue south to the bikini area…we’re about a half inch from the clitoris now.
Week 3: buttocks…we’re getting close to the nitty gritty there now.
Week 4: inside thighs and bikini line.
I should say we are so close to clearing all these areas that some major progress is being made to the brazilian area now finally, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Now I have to say that my technician is not the best at customer service but I’m in a small town and I have no other options and cannot afford to travel.
She answer phone calls during my appointment and whenever she talks her work slows down a lot…so I try real hard to keep conversation to a minimum…but if the phone rings three times she will answer it…which is very annoying when it cuts into MY TIME…oh well.
Anyhow, the point of all this is major progress is happening and it’s getting exciting.
I am so happy with my experience with electrolysis, I wanted to share it. I started electrolysis on my face (upper lip, neck, and chin) about 4 monthes ago. At first I went to a lady who did flash thermolysis. It was very painful and I had to limit my time to 30 minutes per week. I started getting pits on my upper lip and neck. It turned out that she was using too much heat and burning me. So I went to someone else. Not only are my visits more comfortable with her (she uses blend on me), she is really personable, which makes the experience so much more enjoyable. She is quick and efficient. I go once a week for an hour. We startd working on my brows about 5 weeks ago. I do not pluck anything on my face anymore! It is such a joy. I don’t even look in the mirror half as much as I used too. But best of all, I am not self concious about my face. It is so smooth and hair free, it’s wonderful. I know we still have some months left of maintenace, but it is worth it and I will stick with it. Thank God for electrolysis!!
Thanks cycler for adding your story here.

Well, I’ve been getting electrolysis done for at least five years now on my chin, and I still have a ridiculous amount of hair. Granted, I can tell that some of it is new growth and I am 41 yo with a new baby and I nursed for a year so my hormones are probably all over the place. I’m also about 30 pounds overweight, but I think this is absurd. I’m not sure what type machine she uses, but sometimes I do feel tugging on my chin. I remember one particular hair I think she zapped more than 20 times before it came out. I’m black, and I have horrible hyperpigmentation too. I tweezed for years so some of it is from that, but I also think I’ve got scarring from electrolysis. I’m about ready to give up. There is only one other electrologist in my area, at least that I know of, but I’m desperate. How do I get rid of this hair and the scarring? Does anyone know of a GOOD electrologist in North Alabama. I’m a stay at home mom so I don’t have much money, but this has me really depressed. I don’t even want to think about how much I’ve spent over the years. But I’ve been going every two weeks for years now. The sessions only last 15 minutes. Should they be longer? Somebody please help me.
Please enter your city and state in the location section of your profile. We are sure to have people in your area who can tell you of practitioners near you.
I know of offices in Alabama, but I don’t know if they are near enough to you.
I’m in north Alabama near the Tennessee border. I’m willing to travel pretty far, but I’m closest to Birmingham, Nashville, TN, Chattanooga, TN and Decatur, AL.
With an actual location to work with, I can at least give you some names to try out. I have not had work done with any of these ladies, and I can’t say that I have studied any clients they have finished, but I have heard good things about their reputations. Perhaps you can report back here on your experiences.
The most versatile is Ms. Sherry Giermanski in Montgomery, as she is skilled in Thermolysis, Blend and Galvanic. The closest people to where you triangulated are Leigh and Elena in Decatur, and Bonita has a shop in Trinity. They all use thermolysis. Bonita is not working now, her office is being run by people she has trained, so I am sure the place is running well even in her absence.

Sorry, I don’t know of anyone in Huntsville (need I point out that Huntsvill is NOT near the boarder of Tenn).
Now would be a good time for you lurkers to offer your insights on Alabama Electrologists you have sampled.
Thanks for the info James, I’ll check them out. And yes, I’m less than 45 minutes from Tennessee.
