Does Laser Work Permanently???

You should really try to talk to the actual person who will be doing your treatments. It’s impossible to get a sense of whether they know what they’re doing if you’re not really sure what you’re looking for yourself and aren’t asking the right questions.

I would recommend for you to print both the FAQs and the Questions to Ask at Consultation forms at the links below and read them carefully before your next appt.

FAQs clearly state that alex is more powerful and more effective. They also state that effectiveness will depend on the coarseness of the hair and the settings used, NOT where it’s located. And finally, you’d get better results with someone treating with a diode if the person using the diode knows how to use it and the person using the alex doesn’t. That’s why experience and expertise is VERY important. That’s what you’re looking for at the consultations. Not necessarily how swanky the place is. You need to find someone who knows what they’re doing with the laser that they have.

You’ll get results from 3 treatments, but you’ll need a total of 6-8 to kill hair in every hair cycle and even close to 10 on your face. This is also in the FAQs. You would do yourself a disservice by not reading them carefully to learn exactly what you need to be looking for. When you go for consultations, it would help to ask for settings they will be using to judge whether they will not be undertreating you for example. It would also help to ask if they’ve treated male faces in the past.

Ok so the three places I’ve gone
“A” is $200, uses a Diode and has experience with male facial Hair

“B” is $150, uses Alexandrite, and seems less experiences with male facial hair.

“C” is $200 if I pay for 5 sessions up front (and more expensive otherwise) and seems to have some experience with male facial hair.

I guess I’ll have to talk to them a bit more to find out how much experience they have because it seems like having someone who has done male facial hair before makes a big difference.

You didn’t mention what laser “C” has.

Do NOT buy a package until you try at least one treatment first. I jumped right in and bought a package and the doctor was awful and missed like 40% of the hair and argued with me when I showed him the missed spots, and avoided my calls for weeks while I asked for a touch up (by the time I got my touch up, it was time for my next appt anyway!!) I couldn’t switch clinics because I was locked in. UGH!

c was same as b. alexandrite.

It’s really a tough call and one that only you can make really. Like for me, I’m much more daring and adventurous. I’d probably do B just based on price and figure I’m as good a candidate as any to have them get more experience on face! Mind you I don’t want them to totally butcher me but as long as they have experience in general I think they’d be fine, and any missed spots or whatever can be fixed with a touchup, then can switch clinics. I wouldn’t prepay for any packages anywhere. You’d hate to do that then have them want to use low settings.

I know that budget is an issue, but have you ever thought of checking to see what they would charge for something small like underarms? Most places I’ve gone they’re $60-80 which isn’t that bad. Reason I say that is because if you’ve never done laser, underarms are a great place to get a feel for what it feels like, how the process works, and to see how it goes. If you do underarms, and they miss spots then it’s a good indication not to do your face with that same clinic. Again budget may be an issue but for me, investing the $60-80 first may be completely worth it in the long run since you’re talking about your face here. The other reason I suggest that as well is that laser on the face is very painful even with numbing cream, and I think for me at least having done other areas of my body first, made it easier when doing face. A lot of times with face you wear darkening goggles so you can’t see anything and have no idea when they’re about to start or what not, where as other body parts you have clear goggles on and can basically watch.

I think you should:

  1. Talk to the actual person who will be doing your treatments and ask them questions from the link below. Two important things to ask is settings that they will use (ask for joules and spot size at minimum) and whether they offer free touchups within 3 weeks after the treatment for any missed hair.

  2. Check out 1-2 more clinics with an alexandrite laser if possible

  3. Whatever you go with, buy one treatment first and see how things go. If you’re satisfied, buy a package afterwards. You’ll need about 8 or so treatments anyway.

LightSheer Diode Laser or Candela we would recommend going with Emma. DON’T go with IPL worst waste of time and money for people. Also let’s be honest were all bias to some degree on this forum, the lasers we personally use in our clinics are usually the ones all the practioners recommend to people.

We don’t use the Candela lasers, but we think it’s one of the top ones along with the LightSheer Diode Laser. Hope that helps. :S

We’re not all biased since many of us are consumers and get nothing out of recommending one over another.
