I have tried a 3rd and now 4th electrologist. The 3rd uses thermolysis and she has to tug on most if not all hairs. The 4th used galvanic which was a first for me. The 4th also had to tug and tug. So I have been going back to the 3rd one. I have had 12 treatments total and so far and not much if any noticable reduction in hair. I admit that I am a picker. The first electrologist must have used too shallow or too high settings, because I didn’t get the cystic pustules that would result after every one of her treatments. At least that is a bright side. I hope you all are right… I just thought after 12 treatments I would see some relief.
The odds of 4 different electrologists tweezing your hairs seem very slim… I don’t wanna be a twat but are you sure that this is what’s happening? How many times does it happen in a session (and how long is the session)?
12 treatments on the face is nothing, and disgusting skin that lasts a while after a treatment is normal, at least in my experience!
I would not say the chances of that are slim. Different parts of the world will have electrologists of differing skillsets, and there are MANY who are taught to undertreat. We dont tend to judge consumers here for such reports, because if that is what they are saying, more often than not, they are correct.

Tell them that you feel tugging and you know that is a bad sign.
Twelve treatments? How many clearances? How many hours? How big is the area? There are other variables that I can’t mention, but my point is, twelve sessions offers little information that is helpful.
It happens for every hair that they zap. I have had a couple of 45 minute sessions and the rest have been 30 minutes each.
Make that 13 total sessions.
I have mentioned the tugging but they all claim it is “normal” and 3 of them have shown me the hair… which looks to me like any hair that gets tweezed. Each time all of the hair is cleared. The treatment area is on my chin only.
I am at a loss. I may try a 5th one. I have gone back to 2 of the electrologists so they are who I am sticking with for now. There are not a lot of electrologists to choose from in this area.
No traction should be felt - period. I’m curious to know what general area you are talking about? How can they all say it is normal to feel tugging? Perhaps they were told that if they attended the same school or continuing ed programs.
When I did multi-needle galvanic, the manufacturer told me that if I feel a little tug, that would be okay because the follicle is filled with lye and that would ensure that the hair germ cells and such would be destroyed over the next couple hours that the lye remained in the follicle. It sounds plausible, right? I still aimed for smooth releases because I just didn’t know if that statement was totally correct.
A lot of consumerism is about the individual’s gut instinct, mixed with a dose of trust, sprinkled with as much provable factual information as possible.
I vote for no tugging when evaluating electrologists who will earn my money, but I will say that for very thick chin hairs, the first clearance can be the Mother of all Bee-oches. Sometimes it is hard to get a slide, but if that is the case, you still should expect the electrologist to change something up to make it happen. Increase the energy level? Perfect insertions every time? Using a probe that matches the size of the hair and hair follicle?
When the regrowth occurs after a tweezing, the hair may be easier to treat. Speak up and say you don’t want to feel a tweeze.
Winner winner chicken dinner! I decided to go back to the 4th electrologist (the one who used galvanic) and ask her to use thermolysis. I only felt a tug a couple of times. So even though she is pretty far from me I will start going to her from now on. I feel sad that it took me 13 treatments and permanent scarring to find someone who appears to do it the “right” way. How many clients just keep going and think oh well this is normal.
I especially regret the first electrologist where I went 4 times and got high frequency blowout each time… and yes, I picked and scarred up my skin. Ugh. Onward and upward. Now I will be looking for a skilled plastic surgeon or dermatologist who can help me with the scars.

Yes I could PM you. I know that I will likely undergo another 20 treatments (at least), but I hope now after 10 more treatments I begin to see at least a reduction in the hair.
I am trying not to think of how much money and time I have spent so far…
