4 years of electrolysis, hair is still not gone :(

Speaking of miracles… In my opinion, the real miracle in your case is that you felt tugging and still have some results.

I received laser because I was 17 at the time and listened to parental advice appose to doing my research. Not looking for a fast fix since I’ve been in this for 4 years.

Hi all,
Just wanted to give you all an update on my situation. I received my blood test results, and they came back positive for higher than average levels of DHEA-S. I have an ultrasound to check for ovarian cysts tmmrw. My doctor was confused as I don’t have irregular periods, acne or weight problems, however I do suffer from excessive hair growth and depression which may be explained by my blood test results.
I’ve found two great electrolysists that properly zap the hair appose to plucking it so I’m hoping to start fresh with them in addition to taking anti androgens or birth control to fix my hormlonal issues!

Are descriptions such as mine aytypical? My family doctor said it wasn’t common, hoping to be referred to a hormone specialist by him tmmrw after my ultrasound

really really common in my opinion.
There can be a LOT of reasons for excess dihydra-testosterone. PCOS is one common cause, but it can also be caused by thyroiditus, ( equaly as common) tumours anywhere in the body, and about 8 other common issues. Sometimes heritage plays a role , other times it can be cysts on ovaries or diet (a very common cause) . Dont panic and let the specialists figure it out.

There are some super effective antiandrogens out there, so they have a way to address the symptom ( which increased DHT and hirsutism are just that, symptoms) while they narrow down the root cause.

This is also where I point out that NO ONE here, with the exception of Dee Fahey who’s a registered Nurse in addition to being an electrologist, have any medical training whatsoever. We cannot diagnose you or give you the root cause of a hormonal issue, heck even most doctors recieve insufficient training on the endocrine system to diagnose a disorder. We can point out when we think such an issue is likely, but the most we should be doing is referring you to a doctor.

Update again:
Ultrasound results came back clear, I don’t have any cysts or tumours. Next step is to visit an endocrinologist, looks like I may have idiopathic hirtuisim.

My 12 year old daughter also has had her latest bloods come back as high for DHEA-S. I suggested PCOS to our dr but he didn’t think so. My daughter is very furry all over her entire body and face. All other blood tests were fine. We also have an endo appointment organised.
